Christmas Ride blog event

This holiday start a new tradition.

We put up the Christmas tree, hang the lights on the house, sing a carol, and bake cookies, candy and fudge. It’s the same routine and I for one love the emotional response I get from twinkling lights and the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg.

But this year, instead of feeling tired and glad that the shopping, holiday parties, and making magic are over for another year, I’m going to start a new tradition. Nothing gratuitous, but I’m going to fill a need in me and gift myself with something special I can continue until next season when all the magic happens again.

Each year I make a New Year’s resolution to be healthy, happy and wise. (okay, healthy, happy and wise translate to lose weight, take a vacation, and be wise and stick to a budget.)

This year I’m going to find something that will make a difference in my world. I don’t know if it will be one morning a week at the coffee shop with my laptop, or perhaps an evening going to bed an hour early, letting my husband put the children to bed so that I can read a sexy story from the Scarlet Rose garden. (Then maybe he’ll come to bed early too.)

So if you could start a new tradition just for you, what would you like that to be?
Those who comment will be put into a drawing for a 6.00 gift certificate to the Wilder Roses bookstore.

Thank you

It's been a while since I stopped by the Wilder blog. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, happy holiday, or just a fine month of December.

It's snowing today, and it snowed yesterday and according to the local news, I can look forward to several more inches. Who doesn't love several inches? lol I prefer my inches not to be of snow but on a hot, muscular, dark-haired, dark-eyed...well now I digress...or perhaps I'm just making a holiday wish. this is the time for magic and miracles. so perhaps I'll have a special guest for dinner. something yummy like

Foretaste of Forever is a short, erotic romance, filled with love, passion, and sadness. Elyesha loves Ben, and has loved him before she even met him. Her vision showed him to her and she feel in love instantly. Her love for him, followed by her grief and loneliness after losing him, was an almost palpable thing. Ben feels the same for her, but he fights their love with everything he is and has. He knows that the cost of their love is too high and he sacrifices his own heart and happiness to avoid paying that price. This fast paced story had me sighing from the passion and love and nearly crying with sorrow for these two soul mates. I enjoyed Foretaste of Forever and look forward to reading more of Christina Phillips’ work.

The birth of an anthology....

When my editor, Jennifer Haley, asked me if I'd like to take part in an anthology with 3 other writers and write a Miniature Rose based on my interpretation of Dan Fogelberg's classic, "Another Old Lang Syne".... well.... I thought about it for about three, no wait, make that one-and-a-half seconds. Of course I'd like to be part of something so cool! So, the line-up went like this:
Paisley Scott,
Devon Gray,
April Vine and
Ana Aragón.
All of our books will be released as individual novellas. Needless to say, I was flattered to be in such talented company!

BTW: Check out Devon's excellent interview with editor Jennifer Haley for more insight into this wonderful idea for four unique stories.

SUGAR SHACK is my contribution and is available now from The Wilder Roses. My hero, Luke Mackenzie, owns a Maple farm in snowy Vermont. Catherine Bennett is a journalist for a travel magazine who was once engaged to Luke, but left after college graduation -- lured away by what lay outside the confines of her small New England town. Ten years have passed since they've seen each other... can they temper the feelings that still linger? Or will they pick up where they left off a decade ago?

Photobucket

BLURB:
Ten years ago, Catherine Bennett said good-bye to her fiancé, Luke MacKenzie, and his maple farm in Vermont. She wanted to be somebody. She wanted to break out of a small town existence and live the city life. But the higher she flew, the less satisfied she was, in love and life. She had left her heart behind. And she'd never forgotten the sizzling sex with blond-haired, muscular Luke.

Now, when her job takes her back home to Vermont, old feelings flame to life. But is Luke still interested? Is he married? And can he ever forgive her for leaving him so long ago? Only one thing's for sure; there's still an attraction. And their reconciliation will burn hotter than the fireworks that light up the New Years Eve sky!

Here's an excerpt:
Standing not ten feet away was the man she used to dream about. Still dreamed of, she corrected. God, he looked good. Even better than she remembered. Tall and broad-shouldered, with a thick thatch of wind-tousled dark blond hair. Even from this distance, she could see the surprise in his maple-colored eyes.

A smile curved his lips before he could temper it. “Cat?”

The pet name had slipped out before he could check himself. She loved when he called her that. His husky voice made it sound like an endearing purr.

“Hi, Luke,” she managed around a tongue that suddenly felt as dry as cotton. “You look good.” He did look good. Hell, he looked better than good. He looked fan-damn-tastic. She fought the overwhelming impulse to run and throw her arms around him. Instead, she hugged herself and took a few tentative steps toward him.

He nodded, the gaze he leveled on her now more composed and guarded. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised to see you here after all this time.”

Cutting straight to the chase was Luke’s way. She couldn’t help the small laugh that fell from her lips. “Always down to business, aren’t you?”

He nodded. “Most of the time, yes. I’m not very good at games.”

“I guess that depends on the game,” she murmured. Unbidden, her mind conjured images of them role-playing in the barn’s loft. She’d played the part of a Swedish milkmaid and he was a soldier, separated from his regiment, and who wandered onto her father’s farm. The game began as nothing more than a silly escape, but turned into one of the hottest sexual experiences they’d ever shared. Even now, she couldn’t smell hay without thinking of hot, sweaty, mind-blowing sex.

His eyes softened a bit, and she wondered if he joined her in the memory. Then he frowned. “I’m sorry for being blunt, but what are you doing here?”

Time to pay the piper. “Honestly, I was headed home for the holidays, but the weather wasn’t willing to cooperate the entire way. I’m afraid I won’t make it another two hours on the road. I was wondering if I could...I was hoping I could wait out the storm here. I would also like to apologize for being such an immature bitch ten years ago.” There, she’d said it. It was now the elephant in the room and she’d put it there, unchained.

He looked surprised for a moment, then raised an eyebrow. “Wow.” Pulling the suede work gloves off his hands, he shoved them into the back pocket of his jeans and crossed his arms across his chest, the wool-trimmed denim jacket bunching at the shoulders with his movements. “You wait this long to tell me something you could have told me if you’d returned even one of at least twenty phone messages I left for you over the past ten years?”

Warmth flamed in her veins and traveled swiftly up her neck to her face. “I apologize for that, too,” she managed. “All I can say is I was a totally different person then.”

“And now you’ve changed?” he asked, cocking his head.

She nodded. “I hope so, yes.”

He took a deep breath and released it slowly, the heat of his exhale turning to frost as it hit the frigid air. “I happened to like the person you were.”

A butterfly flapped to life in her tummy. “I’ve tried to improve on the older model.” She took off her own gloves and wiped her palms on her coat before extending her right hand to him. “I hope we can work out some kind of friendship, Luke. I’ve missed you in my life.”

He looked at her hand for a long moment, then stretched out his own to grasp hers. Electricity flowed at the contact and Catherine felt a warmth like no other when their palms touched.

“You’re even more beautiful than I remember, Cat,” he said, pulling her to him and embracing her tightly.

Burrowed against him, Catherine inhaled his scent deep into her lungs. God, he smelled so good. Leather, wood, earth, maple, everything unique to this man. He smelled of home. She nearly lost it in his arms. She wanted nothing more than to just be held by him and cry against his chest. But she had to be strong. She had to see if there was anything worth salvaging between them. And that would take time.

Loveology University and Ava's Boutique

So are you wondering about Loveology University and Dr. Ava Cadell? Well, so was I.

http://www.loveologyuniversity.com

I'd heard of Dr. Cadell and knew she gave lectures and seminars. A list of her fields of expertice can be found here. She also offers sexual advice for couples and individuals. She teaches how to give and receive love. But her website offers so much more than great advice.

Check out Ava's Boutique. http://dravaboutique.adameve.com/ This is my kind of toy store (an adult store and not meant for shoppers under the age of 18 :) )

The Romance Studio gives Seduced in Seoul FIVE HEARTS

Seduced In Seoul
Helen Hardt
Contemporary erotic romance
Available from The Wild Rose Press August 2008

It looks like Allison Sanchez’ two week vacation is going to start out well when she’s picked up at the airport by one of the hottest men she’s ever met. It’s just too bad they can’t communicate. When he takes her to her brother’s place one thing leads to another and they’re tangled in the sheets when her brother Mike walks in. Turns out the man who only talks with his body language is his partner Dylan Johnson, as American as she is.

Helen Hardt writes a fun story of fulfilling a fantasy made easier by what seems to be a language barrier. Dylan refuses to feel guilty or let her be too frustrated by the mix up that he let happen. Allison has way too much fun to stay too embarrassed for very long. It seems that her usual shy demeanor is just too hard to hold onto when she and Dylan get together!

There’s some great one sided conversations, hot eroticism and a lot of fun in this book. It kept me smiling on every page! I highly recommend this as a fun interlude when you need a light hearted romp through the pages of fiction in an exotic location.

KyAnn's Blog Day

Good morning, (well, almost afternoon in the east coast. :))

So did you know...

The average male orgasm lasts 6 seconds. Women get 23 seconds.

German researchers say the average intercourse lasts 2 minutes, 50 seconds, yet women perceive it as lasting 5 minutes, 30 seconds.
Men can reach orgasm less than a minute after erection.

Women it's impossible to determine but it can longed than 30 minutes.
Only 30% of women orgasm from penetration alone. So it's the penis fault! lol

Do you have any other interesting facts about sex?

I'll be posting excerpts from my books in the comments. Let me know what you think.

How far would you go to fulfil your one desire?

In my erotic romance, Devil’s Dance, Tessa Connelly has a secret yearning to be dominated by a man. Deep down, she has submissive sexual fantasies and yearnings. Luc Campbell offers her a deal – one month of sexual mastery, if she’s courageous enough to accept…

As an author I love writing about the sexual adventures of characters that aren’t afraid to fulfil their desires and take control of whatever fantasies they keep locked away. My question to you is what is your secret desire?

Do you desire to be captured by some handsome hunk in a faraway realm?
Do you desire to be ‘dominated’ like Tessa? Or do you shiver at the thought of being a Domme to a submissive male?

Do you desire to cover Viggo Mortensen in whipped cream and devour him slowly?

Sorry, that last fantasy was mine…*ahem*
Please, don’t be shy! The authors and readers of The Wilder Rose Press would love to know what YOU desire. Would you go as far as Tessa in accepting a deal with a stranger for a month of wild, wanton sex?
As an added incentive, anyone who posts a comment with automatically be entered into a prize drawing to win a $10 Wild Rose gift certificate.
*Winner will be announced on the blog tomorrow.

IN HIS SLEEP by Hollie Brooks

Blurb for IN HIS SLEEP by Hollie Brooks
Angie Thompson is desperate for a hot, male--a last minute replacement model for the most important shoot of her photography career. When she stumbles upon Chad Gregory wandering the halls of her hotel in nothing but a pair of boxers, she can't believe her luck. Not only does Mr. Sexy agree to help her out with the shoot, but he gives Angie the best orgasm she's ever had...right there in the hall...up against the wall. The catch? He won't remember a thing. Chad is sleepwalking.
Have you ever met anyone who was sleepwalking? Talking in their sleep? I have. That's where I got the idea for this story. My husband is a sleepwalker. First time I saw him do, scared the pants off of me. He kept walking around the room, naked, scratching his head and mumbling something. I finally asked him what he was doing and he said, "What? I have to explain everything to you? Isn't it obvious?" That's when I realized he wasn't awake. Since then (and it's been 20 years), he has tried to sell me a car, make me jump out of an airplane, try and save me from a wild bird, paint the bathroom and I once found in the front seat of his car in his underwear. A few times, he's even gotten a little frisky. He once called me at work and asked me if had done anything the night before! Said he had a wild dream. No dream. At least, not for me. Normally, he vaguely remembers the things he does in his sleep.
So, I want to know, what is your most wicked dream? What do you dream about? Fantasize about? Desire only in the darkness of the night.

Toy Play or the natural way?

Are you the kind of gal with an arsenal of batteries in your closet for that 'toy emergency'? You know, when the explosive chain saw shaking of your favorite 'friend' dies down to barely a buzz. If so, is your special someone jealous of your favorite 'big boy'? Does he roll his eyes when you want to enhance the moment by pulling out your 100 pound duffel bag of vibrating vipers? Or does he break out the tequila and lime and join the party?

I consider myself lucky that my guy likes 'play time' as much as I do. Some men and women just aren't into all the frills and they prefer playing nice to playing naughty. They want to focus on the intimate moment without any added distractions.

In Santa Knows I'm Naughty, Aimee loves the new 'toy' her hubby, Nathan, got her for Christmas. Nathan and her new 'friend' know exactly how to make her happy.

Eve and Shay don't use toys in Vertical Climax, but they do come up with some very interesting positions.

So which do you prefer – toy play or the natural way?

Stockings or Skin?

Stockings or Skin?

Times like this made cramming into a downtown Manhattan pub on a Saturday night worthwhile. Johnny Aklin took a long pull on his cigarette and arched in his chair to get a better look. Sleek, strong, and of course they went on for miles, he observed when they strutted through the door balanced elegantly on three-inch fire engine-red stilettos. Christ, a man could lose himself in legs like those.
Beyond the screaming guitar from the sound system and the laughter that boomed with a crowd of two-twenty he imagined the click of those heels against the golden oak hardwood as they made their way from the entrance to the single empty stool at the bar.
Smooth. Those legs were smooth.
He imagined his lips coasting up them from delicate ankle to slender inner thigh. Then they crossed themselves in that slow, tantalizing, brutally erotic look at me fashion. His blood caught flames and he reached for his glass. Certainly, those legs were made for his hands. He let the scotch roll over his tongue before he swallowed then yanked his tie loose and wondered…stockings or skin?
As an author of erotic romance, I’m highly interested in what appeals to the opposite sex. It’s always been up for debate. It could take place around the poker table, at a boy’s night out at the local pub after a baseball game or silently in the mind of your lover while he watches you in evening ritual stroking apricot lotion from ankle to hip. There’s no getting around it ladies, men will forever love legs. We’ve already established this but does your man have a preference on Stockings vs Skin?
Mine has a weakness for garter-belts—as most men probably do. On several occasions, I’ve heard him complain that the invention of the full pantyhose has made the use for garters obsolete when in the past with the thigh-high stockings they were absolute necessity. So for him, he would choose thigh-highs over skin but skin over full hose. He’s a complex character, isn’t he?
Personally, I love stockings of all kind. From the moment the nylon touches my toes, slides up my calf and hugs my thighs, I feel empowered, sexy and ready to take on the world. It could be I’m heading out for a night on the town, a romantic dinner or I’m just scooting over to the mall in need of new skirts to join my already immense wardrobe. Regardless of where I am or what I’m doing, when I’m in a pair of stockings I feel damn good about myself.
How about you, do you have a preference? Is there a reason you would choose one over the other?

It's All About Me

Who is Anita Philmar?

Good Question with no easy answer.

We are all unique in our own way. Yet, when you start telling others about who you are or what you're like, the descriptions all begin to sound the same.

I don't want to be the same. Wild and Crazy, meak and shy, at times we all have these characteristics, some of us more than others.

I'm a normal person with a husband, two kids, and two dogs. I love people and enjoy meeting new friends as well as old friends. I spend most of my time alone, because I chose to be a writer.

For some this would be the kiss of death, for me it's a joy because I can visit new worlds and go to exotic places. No rules, except the ones I create. Bad characters that my characters can slay. Situations that I control. Oh, but its great to be all powerful.

In my first erotica, I tried to put everything I enjoyed reading, a mystery with an off-world romance with lots of sex.

Hey, what more could a person want?

Happy with the results of Black Dragon's Blood, I couldn't leave the people with dragon blood alone and wrote two more books in the series.

I'm currently doing the edits for Black Dragon's Moon.

It should be out in the next couple of months.

As you can see authors fall in love with their characters as much as the readers do.

The last book in the series is Black Dragon's Heart. Don't know yet when that one will be showing up on the book shelves, but I think it's my favorite.

Now, you know for than you ever wanted to about me, but if you want to check out some of my favorite fantasies visit my blog -

anitaphilmar.blogspot.com

Hope you have a wonderful day full of fun-loving sex.

Doctor, Doctor!

"Oh, doctor, I have an ache."

"Where does it hurt, my dear?"

"Mmm, anywhere you're not touching me."

During childhood, most of us played dress up and acted out a fantasy. Whether it was playing house, doctor or teacher, it was our way of mimicking adults. Some adults never lose the need to act out fantasies, making role playing a popular device in the bedroom as well as in erotic romance.

What do you think makes role playing hot? And what's your favorite fantasy/role to play?

Bluffing

My apologies for yesterday's missing blog. I could claim it was a test to see if you guys were paying attention, (LOL) but the fact of the matter is, I was drawing a blank about what to blog and decided to come back to it later. Only later never came. I got busy and that was that.

So, on to today's subject...

Strip poker, have you ever played it, would you ever play it and why? I for one would never have played it when I was younger (no confidence) and now that I have the confidence...lol...no body, at least not one I'd share. But it's a fantasy.

Have a great day!

Favorite Things

So I have this list of some of my favorite things that I thought I'd share (warning: longish), and to humor me since today is my birthday and all, I'd like everyone to list some of their favorite things...as many as you like...okay, seriously, no more than say...41. Yeah, 41 favorite things is the limit...LOL

‘These Are A Few of My Favorite Things’ Lists By Liza James

Favorite Ice Cream – Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food...Chocolate ice cream, gooey marshmallow, swirls of caramel, yummy little chocolate fishies....ahhhh, it doesn’t get much better than that! I also recommend Karamel Sutra, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, New York Super Fudge Chunk & Coffee Heath Bar Crunch!

Favorite Fruit – Strawberries ‘n’ Cream...Okay, the cream isn’t technically ‘fruit’, but I can’t eat strawberries without it.

Mix well one 8 ounce cream cheese with one 7 -7 ½ ounce jar Marshmallow fluff and chill.

Favorite Vegetable – Zucchini...I love it baked with a savory mix of bread crumbs, mushrooms, tomatoes, fresh basil, and parmesan cheese. But nothing beats chocolate-chocolate chip zucchini bread. Here’s the recipe – enjoy!

Chocolate-Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread

Mix together: 3 cups flour1 ½ teaspoons baking powder½ cup sugar1 teaspoon baking soda2/3 cup brown sugar1 teaspoon salt1/3 to ½ unsweetened cocoa powder Then add: 3 beaten eggs2 cups shredded zucchini¾ cup vegetable oil2 teaspoons vanilla1 cup chocolate chips

Mix well, divide between two greased bread pans, and bake at 325 for about an hour.

* * *

Favorite Soup – Cream of Potato...Nothing makes my husband happier than a bowl (or three) of homemade Cream of Potato Soup! The key is the leeks, I won’t make it without them.

Favorite Meal – Swedish Meatballs, and no, not the Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom soup kind! I like them over white rice, I like them over noodles, but nothing is yummier than Swedish Meatballs over mashed potatoes, baby!

Favorite Dessert – Chocolate Dreams...Which is exactly what they are, literally, since Piggly Wiggly’s bakery no longer carries them...:::sniff:::... Moist Chocolate cake, a huge dollop of real whipped cream, covered in a thick blanket of chocolate ganache. I miss you, my little darlings!

Favorite Food To Have Eaten Off Of Me – Hot Fudge...Because it’s nice and sticky and takes a lot of extra licks to get off. ;-)

Favorite TV Series (past) – Little House on the Prairie & Buffy the Vampire Slayer...Okay, yeah, from one end of the spectrum to the other...LOL But both of these shows were phenomenal in my book.

Smart, snappy dialogue, monsters galore, and two of the hottest vampires ever, Angel and Spike...sigh...Luckily, Santa Claus bought my daughter the whole series on DVD for Christmas last year, so mommy can get her Angel/Spike fix any time she needs it. ;-)

No one tugged at the heartstrings like Michael Landon in Little House on the Prairie. And those episodes were written with such emotion...something I try to incorporate in my own stories. I’ve seen each episode numerous times, yet if I’m flipping through the channels and I come across one, I can’t help but stop and watch (same with the movie Roadhouse starring Patrick Swayze ).

*side note – The pen name Liza James is a play on Walnut Grove’s school teacher/Laura’s sister-in-law, Eliza Jane.*

Favorite TV Series (present) – Bones & House

The only thing I’d ever seen Hugh Laurie in before House was the Stuart Little movies, so I wasn’t sure if this series would interest me. Boy, was I wrong! Hugh Laurie is not only funnier than I ever imagined he could be, but each episode manages to grab & hold my interest until the very end. I sure hope House has several more seasons in its future! I hate saying goodbye!

Bones is another homerun for me. Yes, I love me some David Boreanaz, but the whole cast is awesome. And the chemistry between Booth and Bones is undeniably hot!

Favorite Food Network Shows – Iron Chef (the original & America), all of the Food Network Challenges, and Good Eats! I could listen to Alton Brown talk all day...LOL

Favorite Soap Operas – All My Children, Days of Our Lives & One Life To Live.

Favorite Sitcom – Two & A Half Men...LOL Funny! I swear, some episodes I have to sit with my legs crossed I laugh so hard!

Favorite Publisher - *Warning-the following answer contains heavy sucking up* The Wild Rose Press.

Favorite Review – Branded - By Liza James Written by Chrissy Dionne, Romance Junkies"Liza James’ short story BRANDED will have readers’ toes tingling with the intensity of the sexual encounters between Troy and Lily. From the first page right through to the last there’s no doubt that this couple is meant to be together. What I hadn’t expected was to become so enraptured by the tale that I didn’t want it to end. At only nineteen pages BRANDED is an excellent short story that will satisfy your need for a hot story when you don’t have a whole lot of time to invest in reading. Wonderfully written Ms. James!”

Favorite Yahoo Group – http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EroticCravings

EroticCravings is a group of erotic romance writers who are very close to my heart: KyAnn Waters, Meagan Hatfield, Eden Rivers, and me! I’m so lucky to be a part of them!

Favorite Season – Fall! Perfect weather, gorgeous foliage, pumpkin pie, and Halloween!

Favorite Holiday – *See Favorite Season*

Favorite Way To Relax – Reading a great book in a hot bubble bath!

Favorite Movie Genres – Horror & Comedy...some of my all-time favorites, just to name a few:

Horror: The Changeling, Dracula (1979), Salem’s Lot (1979 - what can I say, it was a good year), The Ring, The Exorcist, The Shining, The Omen, Christine, Carrie, My Bloody Valentine, Evilspeaks....wow, I could go on forever!

Comedy: Arthur, Just One of the Guys, Easy Money, Stir Crazy, Back To School, Porky’s, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Bachelor Party, National Lampoon’s Vacation (Okay, so I’m stuck in the 80s. )

Favorite Song – All Right Now by Free (Yep, I’m a rocker!)

Favorite Sports – Football & Figure Skating...Yeah, I know, weird, right? LOL

Favorite Football Teams – I can’t choose between The Packers & Da Bears!

Favorite Ice Dancers – Torvill & Dean...1984 Olympics, All perfect 6.0s. J

Favorite Cartoon Character – Jimmy Neutron, much to the disgust of my daughters...LOL

Favorite Game Shows – Press Your Luck & The Gong Show...remember those?

Favorite Vampires – The Black Dagger Brotherhood! What a sexy bunch of ass-kickin’ blood suckers...Thank you, J.R. Ward!

Woodiwiss, Dearly Beloved by Mary Jo Putney, A Fire in the Heart by Katherine Sutcliffe, Island Flame by Karen Robards, Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood, Cry No More by Linda Howard, Say No To Joe? by Lori Foster, Hawke’s Pride by Norah Hess, Angel by Johanna Lindsey, Angel In Scarlet by Jennifer Wilde, Nightrose, Wild, Sweet Wilderness, Annie Lash, Midnight Blue, and the River and Wind Trilogies by Dorothy Garlock, and anything written by Rebecca Paisley.

Favorite Anthology – Welcome To Redemption by Donna Marie Rogers & Stacey Joy NetzelJ

Favorite Stephanie Plum Book – Hard Eight, and all you Ranger fans will know why...LOL

Favorite Craft book – The Bald-Headed Hermit and the Artichoke, An Erotic Thesaurus by A.D. Peterkin...Okay, honestly, I just like the title, but it does have some interesting pictures...LOL

Favorite Heroes – Joe Winston (Say No To Joe? by Lori Foster), Royce Westmoreland/The Wolf (A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught), Ricardo Carlos Manoso aka Ranger (Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich).

Favorite Heroines – Lady Madelyne (Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood), Jennifer Merrick (A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught), Stephanie Plum (Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich), Peachy McGee (Midnight & Magnolias by Rebecca Paisley).

Favorite Liza James story – How am I supposed to choose just one of my babies? I love ‘em all!

Oh, Aren't We Clever?

As a writer, one of my favorite things is when I experience what I like to call "writer's literary bliss". Usually some kind of impromptu dance around my office ensues, so high am I on my sheer brilliance. Because really, could anyone else be so clever? So bright? So...funny? Of course, the moment is short-lived and I remember that little monster called subjectivity. What I find to be one of the greatest literary gems ever to be penned will be seen by others as, well, words on the page. Words their eyes roll over, bringing them to a passage they find clever, a string of words that did nothing for me. I believe that writers have their favorite passages in the books they create and send prayers heavenward the editor won't try to cut "this scene...this line...this incredible fruit of my creative mind". In my book "Addicted", here is one of my passages that delighted me to no end (excerpt contains explicit sexual content...as if you care, right?).

He leaned in and kissed me, his tongue running along my bottom lip in a coaxing tease. “I want to make you come, Jane. But I want to do it with my mouth. Please let me taste you.”
I never said yes. I never said anything at all. This is the kind of reaction that results in your underwear being shoved into a man’s back jeans pocket. I didn’t think about my lack of response, however. It was difficult to think of anything after his mouth was on me.

As readers, we also have passages and scenes we have experienced from an author's voice that live with us. I'll never forget a scene I read years ago from a Nora Robert's novel titled "Command Performance". Here's the short version: Eve is girl who grows into a woman who has always had a crush on Prince Alexander (her father is close to the royal family), but is overly intimidated by him. She is friends with the other royal siblings, calling them by their first name, but only addresses Alexander by his title. The prince has always harbored feelings for her, and is frustrated to no end that she is so standoffish, and very jealous of her close relationship with his brother. When she stumbles upon him in the stable, he confronts her about how she addresses him (I'm getting all tingly just thinking about what's to come). He corners her, fitting his hand into her hair at the nape. "Say my name," he says in his intimidating timbre, hovering over her. When his name spills tenatively from her lips, he is on her like white on rice. Hot. So, what book scence hangs in your mind?

How Bad do YOU want to be?

Fortuneteller, my current release, is being followed at some point by Bad Enough. Bad Enough's heroine is Lindy Cooper, a PI who appears by name only in Fortuneteller.

Lindy's on vacation in Costa Rica, breaking out of her good girl routine, and testing whether she's got it in her to be a bad girl. Her motive? She solves a major case, fulfilling her life-long dream, and in the process of fulfilling HER dream, finds herself at odds with everyone she knows. Her parents are worried about her safety, so they disapprove. Her fiancé ... well, let's just say THAT relationship doesn't last. Which actually kind of works out...if only because it makes Lindy realize that things have got to change.

So off she goes to fulfill a few other dreams...and that's where it gets fun!

So...here's the question: if you were Lindy, heading off to Costa Rica (or any other place you like—the important thing is you know no one here...you think) planning to break some rules, live out some fantasies....AND someone you've known for years, someone you're attracted to, shows up...and he's willing to help...

Would you take him up on it? And where would you go, and what would you do? BTW, you can use your imagination and make it all up...if your DH or SO walks into the room and says "honey, I never knew you wanted to get down and dirty on the slopes of a volcano in Iceland with Bubba from next door" you can say with all honesty you're just saying that to make the blogger-of-the-day happy, and all you really want is to be trapped in a hurricane, getting wet with him...besides, Bubba drinks dirty martinis and thinks toothpick architecture should be an Olympic sport...

You Wet Yet?

I'm posting from Central Florida, where we're on our way to a wet, windy, generally icky day. Perfect for...well?

As a writer, I can think of lots of things to do (real and imagined) during a tropical storm. One of the benefits of exercising your imagination deliberately is it goes on autopilot. At least, I think it's a benefit. My friends and family might be a bit over the part where someone cuts them off in traffic and I voice an entire life story that gives them a good reason for such rude behavior.

I like doing this—which is, perhaps, obvious. Like making up stories about people (real and imagined), especially ordinary people who find themselves in unusual situations, or sensible people faced with irresistible temptation.

Rarely do I write reunion stories, which gives me an interesting challenge when writing erotic romance—because, really, what good reason is there for an ordinary woman to jump into bed with some guy she's just met? I'm assuming, of course, that the man isn't worried about reasons LOL. My favorite reason is love at first sight.

In The Fortuneteller's Lay, when Detective Devon Cole walks into Miranda's fortunetelling tent, the usual rules apply—he's irresistibly hot, she's irresistibly sexy, sparks are flying and threatening to set fire to everything...it's love at first sight, whether they know it or not. But the thing is, there's something more going on than hot cops and sexy fortunetellers...anyone know what it is that convinces Miranda to throw caution to the winds? There's a tarot candle in it for the first three correct answers (I'm allowing for variations on the theme). If you've read the story, you absolutely know it; if you've seen the excerpt (on my blog, posted in June), you probably know it; and if you've even read the blurb you can make a pretty good guess. Email me separately at laradien@cfl.rr.com if you want to play for prizes.
Meanwhile, back on the blog, what do you think about love at first sight? Ever felt it? Lived to regret it or did it work out? Inquiring minds want to know...

And give me a little time to answer, 'cause I'm gonna get wet....
PS I'm going to try to post again around noon

The One That Got Away

When two hearts, denied in youth, reunite, yesterday's forbidden desire becomes today's unquenchable passion.

Kathleen Sullivan has loved Bryce Donovan since the first time she saw him, but he was the governor's son, the golden boy, and being groomed to follow in his father's political footsteps. She's the daughter of the woman who washes his laundry. But after years of separation, the chemistry is still there and some longings simply won't be denied.

Reunited lovers...they theme seems to strike most readers in that soft spot where certain memories linger. I believe almost everyone has someone they never forget, their first love. For me, the one that got away wasn't a keeper.

Is there a man from your past you'd like to catch up with?

Great Places to Make Love...Not!

We all read about heroes and heroines making love in wonderfully romantic and creative places--the beach, an airplane restroom, etc. But are those locations really as good as they sound? I mean, who can really enjoy the moment when you're worrying about sand getting into places it shouldn't? Or when you're wondering how sanitary the airplane restroom is and who was doing what in there earlier? Ick!

Today's question is...what locations sound great in romance novels but leave much to be desired in real life?

Putting Summer Olympics Non-Stop Watching to Good Use

Are you sleep deprived because you've been watching the Olympics for the past week until all hours of the night? Does your latest hero look remarkably like Michael Phelps or Kobe Bryant? (I've seen more of those two in the past week than I have in the past year!)

I am so there. I live in Georgia (the U.S. version, not the U.S.S.R.) and the Olympics begin here at about 8:00 pm. I've been watching until 12:00 midnight, sometimes 1:00 am, and I've got to be up by 6:00 am in the morning. So why is it that the Summer Olympics has such a draw for those of us who wouldn't be caught dead watching an entire table tennis tournament or canoeing on television?

Okay, so before I get slammed for belittling your favorite sport, here's the question for the day:

Give us your tip for putting the Summer Olympics watching to good use in your writing or reading, and be the lucky winner of a book download from The Wilder Roses of The Wild Rose Press!

(The racier, the better!)

Jennifer Haley, Editor

When did you fall in love with romance?

For me it was in the sixth grade. The first romance I read was one of the old "malt shop romances" written in the 40s and 50s. I think they were already out of print by the time I read them in the mid-70s. Do any of you remember Rosamond du Jardin? She was my favorite. I devoured all of her books. My favorite was Marcy Catches Up, set in Colorado, which is now my home. The young love and happy endings enthralled me.

Also in sixth grade, I discovered Harlequin. Back then they only published the sweet romances, but for an adolescent girl, reading about adult love was very exciting! The first one I read was called Helping Dr. Medway. I don't recall the plot or the author, but I do recall being totally immersed in the story.

A year or so later, I stumbled upon a book called Forever by Judy Blume. Now I know you've all read that one! Though not technically a romance, because the hero and heroine don't actually end up together, it was a graphic depiction of a young woman's first sexual experience. Remember Ralph? LOL.

So my question today is, what is the first romance you ever read? For some of you, it will be The Flame and the Flower. Naughty me -- I only read that one for the first time two years ago! But I did discover Danielle Steel when I was younger, and a new series called Silhouette showcasing some new authors, one of whom was an unknown named Nora Roberts.

I can't wait to read all your responses!

Like a Cyclone

I wish my characters' words and personalities would hit me like a cyclone sometimes. See, I'm the kind of writer that agonizes about every phrase selection. Did I use 'that' too often? Is this mental image what I'm going for? Does the reader understand my character? I like to have the most perfect finished product possible. I like it when words just flow from my brain to my fingertips and onto the page. When I take the time to reread what I've written and say to myself Damn, girl, you're a good writer. Does that happen often? Sadly, no.

Which doesn't make me a very prolific -- or fast -- writer.

So while my characters are swirling around inside my mind like, yep, you guessed it, a cyclone, I'm struggling to carve out time to write then sweating about the choices they're making once they appear on screen.

Anyone else need more hours in the day?

Shopping and Security Guards

Have you ever wanted to get back at an ex? Buy the prettiest dress you can find and show off all of your assets so that jerk wished he'd never treated you wrong? If so, then you'll love Kara, who wants to buy the hottest dress she can find for her divorce hearing. Unfortunately for her, the mall closes, and no one bothers to check the dressing room where she's trying on hot little black dresses. So when Jack, the hottest mall security guard ever, shows up, he believes Kara to be the sexiest thief he's ever caught. Of course, Jack figures out the scenario quickly, though he's immediately smitten with the lovely Kara.

I loved editing this book because the characters were so believable. Who hasn't wanted to get back at an ex? Who hasn't wanted to find a hot cop moonlighting as a security guard? The chemistry between Kara and Jack is practically combustible, and the sparks really fly as Jack and Kara explore their fantasies. I love how the ex finally gets what he deserves, though I won't tell you if Kara gets what SHE deserves--a happily ever after with Jack!

Pick up MOONLIGHTING today and find out how delicious a part time job can be!

Rainy Days

We've had rain and thunderstorms rolling through over the past few days, cooling things off and making me want to sleep in or nap during the day. Before kids, rainy days on weekends were the perfect excuse for a little fun under the covers. Ah, there's nothing like cuddling next to the one you love and listening to the rain hit the roof.

What do you like to do on rainy days?

In Your Dreams

Today's question is inspired by both the blog and the loop giveaway, Dream Strokes by Desiree Holt and Blood Ritual by L. Rosario. In Dream Strokes, the h/h have vivid dreams about each other but have never met. Blood Ritual isn't about a dream but if memory serves, the concept for the story came in a dream about a woman willing to die for the man she loves.

So, my question...do you have vivid dreams and what's the strangest one you've ever had?

Have a great day!

Good Morning everyone,

So you make the plan. Blankets, chips...gum, a splash of perfume an easy access bra and loose flowing skirt. If you're going for a home run, you want to make rounding the bases easy. lol and no, we aren't talking baseball but yep, the dying art of Drive-in Movie Theater makeout.

A warm summer night, the bed of a pick-up, and a movie I didn't really want to see or one I've already seen so I don't care that I'm missing most of it. If it's a double feature all the better. Strong hands on my quivering flesh and deep, wet kisses sending a tingle through my system and curling my toes.

I happen to be lucky enough to live a couple miles from one of the last drive in theaters. In their height of popularity in the 1950's there were nearly 4000 drive in theaters in the US. now there are approx 430. (the first opened in 1933)

So do you have a drive-in movie theater near you? And have you ever had a romantic night in the giant parking lot with rowdy teenagers in the nearby trucks? (okay, most of my experiences were from when I was one of those rowdy teenagers. And I think the toe curling was from the steel bed of the truck digging into my back. lol. they're fond memories anyway.)

Needing a fresh start after her husband divorces her for a younger woman, advertising exec, Catherine Lakeland, takes a position in Germany. Curious about sex with a man other than her husband but wary of the complications of a relationship, Cat trades places with her new friend, a sex worker at a brothel, for one night of pleasure but double the fun.

Men in Uniform

One Night With You by Jane E. Jones

A storm hits, and a terrified Alice pulls off the highway to wait it out. She's relieved when a cop drives up and offers to keep her company. It doesn't hurt that he's probably the sexiest man she's ever met.

Not the type to flirt, let alone ask a guy out, Alice lusts after him quietly and wishes she had enough confidence and courage to act on her desires. But the storm passes and she drives away, sure she'll never see him again.

Today's question...Do you have a thing for a man in uniform? If so, name the uniform that turns you on.

Enjoy the day!

So, today's question is...

If you were caught in a dark elevator during a blackout, who would you want to be trapped with?

Have a fun day!

Good Morning

Welcome to my day to blog for the Sultry Scarlet Nights!
Here's a little bit about myself:
I have lived my entire life in the Salt Lake City Valley, where my husband and I have raised a family of six children, three of mine and three of his, a regular Brady Bunch. One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my six grandchildren.
I'm a member of the Romance Writers of America and several sister chapters. I served as 2006-2007 Vice-President. Though I love romance, writing suspense is my favorite. I would love the opportunity to attend ThrillerFest.
My husband and I love traveling, our favorites are the Caribbean for relaxation and Italy for the wine. Our experiences have given me valuable insight for her stories.
I have a spicy hot story coming this fall, Enchanted Dreams from The Wilder Roses I'm very excited, I had a blast writing something so different.
Here's a blurb:
According to the Runes, whimsical Wiccan shop owner Cassandra Ballard must wait for her soul mate—she’ll know him when he enters her life. However, recent erotic fantasies and dreams have left her wanting and frustrated.
Sexy handy man, Dylan McCabe, bears a striking resemblance to the man in Cassie's dreams. Every time he enters her shop, her heart beats to the drum of a ritual older than time.
With the arrival of Samhain drawing near, will Cassie resist Dylan’s persistent advances or can he possibly be the man of her Enchanted Dreams?
Unedited Excerpt:
Cassandra opened the car door and tossed in her purse. Before she could climb behind the wheel, a hand clamped over her mouth. Her knees went weak. This was New York and it was dark. Her pepper spray now lay on the passenger side floor, out of reach.
“Trust me?” The whispered words sent a delicious tremor down her body. She knew that voice. Jed Gallivan, CEO of Cosmo Engineering. She tried to turn, his grip although iron, was gentle and prevented it.
“Trust me?” He repeated.
A shiver ran down Cassandra’s spine, her pussy instantly started to throb at the memory of his magic fingers in the elevator. Whatever game he played the tremor of nerves caused her to nod her head. He nibbled a little on her neck turning her knees to jelly, then whispered, “don’t turn around I’m going to walk you to the other side of the car.”
Letting him direct her she kept her eyes straight ahead, he had finally moved his hand from her mouth. He took the key from her hand and reached around her.
“Stand still.” He spoke so quiet she barely heard the words.
Not moving, as directed, the sense of adventure caused her mouth to go dry. What would he do next? He placed a red silken scarf around her eyes and tied it at the back of her neck. She wouldn’t be seeing after all, but feeling could be so much better.
He put a hand on top of her head and gently helped her bend into the car. The procedure was something she’d seen on CSI when the cops put their prisoners in the back seat. Without the scarf of course.
He closed her door, a few seconds later, the car dipped as he slipped into the drivers seat.
“Where…” Cassandra began.
“Shh… No words, only feeling and sensation from now on.” He followed his own instructions.
The engine purred to life, the motion of the car vibrated through her body. Her heart pumped as her thoughts turned to the fact she didn’t really know him. Instead of frightening her, as it should, her excitement heightened. She closed her eyes behind the scarf and tilted her head back on the seat.
Warm fingers came to rest on her bare knee—with the temperatures of summer she’d foregone nylons, even though it was against the firm’s policy to go bare legged. The electricity started at her toes as his hand inched up her thigh and traveled toward her already sopping pussy. His thumb started to nudge her panties away from her throbbing clit. Anticipation caused her to suck in her breath, but the exquisite torture stopped. Disappointment flooded through her, she sighed in protest, and he shushed her.
Her body dipped as the car turn, revealing why he had needed his hand. Expecting him to start where he had stopped she was dismayed when he stopped the car, and then climbed out. She could do nothing but wait.
Several minutes passed, she contemplated removing the blindfold, and then the door opened. Again, she felt the gentle pressure of his hand on her head, and his other grasped her elbow to guide her. He still hadn’t uttered a word. He led her somewhere, she could smell the tang of autumn in the air, but it didn’t give her any clues to where they were.

A Hot Day In Heaven by Kathleen Scott

I love writing stories of mythological or emphereal beings behaving badly, while still maintaining a core of goodness. It's concepts like this that brought me to my story, A Hot Day In Heaven. Soon to be released from the Scarlet Rose line.

Here's a bit o' the blurb to tempt you...

*****

Bad things always seem to come in threes, or so Sonia St. Marie discovers as she is kicked out of her apartment during a blizzard, her job teaching art classes at an adult center gets cut and she catches her boyfriend in bed with her best friend. Needless to say, it’s not been the best of days. That is until Archer DeAngelo shows up in his black SUV smelling of exotic spices and evoking a head full of sensual fantasies.

For years, Archer has been the distraction in the back of Sonia’s mind, tempting her to wonder about his decadent lifestyle he lives and the women he’s pleasured. Just looking at him makes her dream of all the things she wants to do with him and now she’s free from her philandering boyfriend, Gabriel, there’s nothing to stand in her way.

Seeing Sonia’s distress at her homeless state, Archer offers her a place to stay: his condo overlooking Central Park . Having nowhere else to go in such inclement weather, Sonia takes him up on his offer for shelter and much more. The sexual tension that always simmered between them goes into overdrive under such close proximity. The fact Archer has made it his mission to help her put her life back together has its own advantages. But then again, Archer is only doing his job.

Fallen from grace for a difference of opinion, Archer leads a group of disenfranchised guardian angels, who are currently staying mere steps ahead of the heavenly host who wants nothing more but to see them regain their rightful place at God’s right hand. A place they no longer care to occupy. The call of the flesh is much too powerful a lure for one who is now mostly corporeal.

For Archer, all his plans for the past few years have come down to this place in time. Since being assigned as Sonia’s guardian angel, he’s wished for the day when he could make her his. Unfortunately, his former friend, Gabriel, beat him to the prize. As head of the fallen, Archer has bided his time, knowing Gabriel would fall further than any of them ever could. It’s up to Archer to find a place for the fallen in the grand plan while trying to help Sonia realize her dreams, including the more erotic ones.

Ask Ima: An Interview w/Scarlet Rose Editors

I thought today might be a good day to introduce everyone to our Scarlet Rose editors. We have a lot of fun because as you might imagine we enjoy the subject matter of our work. ;)

The best way to introduce you is to point you toward the article for this month's Ask Ima article. Ask Ima can be found "In the Garden" on our website. http://thewildrosepress.com/publisher/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1686&Itemid=64

Truth be told, I didn't think anything could rattle Ima, but I'm pretty sure I saw her blush a few times during the interview.

Don't forget to post today for a chance to win a free download of In Reference To... by Savannah Jordan. And pop over to the Wilder Roses loop for a chance to win Layover by Tia Dani.

And have a great Saturday!

I need your vote at Whipped Cream Reviews!

Hot Blooded has been put up for book review of the week. Voting is only today and tomorrow. I'd love to get a week of free promotion. =)

And the review is fabulous!

snippet: The one thing I look for in a vampire romance is a good bite scene and Kyann Waters knows how to deliver the goods. "Hot Blooded" is sensual, seductive and contains a surprise at the end that simply made me smile in delight. Actually, I think I said, “Cool!” ....

Ms. Waters knows the proper way to write a vampire bite for full sexual impact, how to save a tortured hero and how to give a reader a refreshing, exciting and unique HEA. It’s all wrapped up in a short story aimed at the best of what vampire romances are known for -- a happily ever after you can sink your teeth into.
