You Wet Yet?

I'm posting from Central Florida, where we're on our way to a wet, windy, generally icky day. Perfect for...well?

As a writer, I can think of lots of things to do (real and imagined) during a tropical storm. One of the benefits of exercising your imagination deliberately is it goes on autopilot. At least, I think it's a benefit. My friends and family might be a bit over the part where someone cuts them off in traffic and I voice an entire life story that gives them a good reason for such rude behavior.

I like doing this—which is, perhaps, obvious. Like making up stories about people (real and imagined), especially ordinary people who find themselves in unusual situations, or sensible people faced with irresistible temptation.

Rarely do I write reunion stories, which gives me an interesting challenge when writing erotic romance—because, really, what good reason is there for an ordinary woman to jump into bed with some guy she's just met? I'm assuming, of course, that the man isn't worried about reasons LOL. My favorite reason is love at first sight.

In The Fortuneteller's Lay, when Detective Devon Cole walks into Miranda's fortunetelling tent, the usual rules apply—he's irresistibly hot, she's irresistibly sexy, sparks are flying and threatening to set fire to everything...it's love at first sight, whether they know it or not. But the thing is, there's something more going on than hot cops and sexy fortunetellers...anyone know what it is that convinces Miranda to throw caution to the winds? There's a tarot candle in it for the first three correct answers (I'm allowing for variations on the theme). If you've read the story, you absolutely know it; if you've seen the excerpt (on my blog, posted in June), you probably know it; and if you've even read the blurb you can make a pretty good guess. Email me separately at laradien@cfl.rr.com if you want to play for prizes.
Meanwhile, back on the blog, what do you think about love at first sight? Ever felt it? Lived to regret it or did it work out? Inquiring minds want to know...

And give me a little time to answer, 'cause I'm gonna get wet....
PS I'm going to try to post again around noon

I do believe in love at first sight! Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic but how else can you explain that "feeling", that realization that you are finally in the presence of the one intended just for you?
And yes, I have felt that feeling, and so far, it's working out REALLY well ;)

Now how can that be? I just wrote a comment, and when I tried to post it, I got an "already done" message....but is there a post? Oh, no....of course not!

However, just in case it does, I'm only going to repeat the last bit--

Love at first sight--yes, absolutely. I agree--it's feeling like somehow you managed to be in the right place at the right time.

Glad your love at first sight is working out for you :-)

(this all sounded better the first time I wrote it....sigh)

I do believe in love at first sight. I'm sorry to say, it has never happened to me.

Sorry, I only believe in lust at first sight, pure animal attraction. I don't think you can have abiding love until you know the person warts and all and accept them for it.

Lara, when I first met my hubby, we were at a country bar and he'd asked me to dance. After that first spin on the floor, I knew I would marry him.

Stay safe and dry, Lara. Well, maybe not dry, but safe anyway!

What's the fun in dry?

Actually, the latest update apparently shows a lot of weakening. Which is good, except now I have to work later, I think!

Ah, well, c'est la vie!

I KNEW I should have emailed my next 'planned' post to my work so I could add it!

I'll try to leave in about an hour, anyway.

Dawn, if that's how you feel, you'll probably love Fortuneteller and the upcoming (one of these days, but I don't know which one!) Hungarian Masquerade....my Destination Pleasure story. In both stories, there is definitely LUST at first sight...love is a bit trickier.

At the risk of sounding silly, I believe we have people in our lives that we connect with on a non-physical level, and it is those people that we jump with, in a heartbeat, from lust to love...

Oh, and I've certainly experienced LUST at first sight as well....yay for us!

Oh, and I've known loads of people (dated some of them) for whom love (or lust, for that matter) wasn't at "1st sight" and it didn't stop things from working out at all :-)

Hi Lara,

I definitely believe in love at first sight. I met my hubby 11 years ago when we worked as camp counselors, I knew immediately he was the one for me.

Good luck with all your nasty weather!

Cheers!
