A Haunted Garden Halloween Hop - Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat and Give Me Something Good to Drink! (and eat)

Thank you for visiting the Wilder side of the Haunted Garden. I heard you trick or treat. We have both. Sultry heat in the stories and something sweet to wet your lips.

Our treats will bring out your Wilder side.

Milky Way in a Glass
Blend 1 oz amaretto almond liqueur, 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Pour over ice and sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon

Tootsie in a Glass
Layer in a large high ball glass - 2 oz grenadine syrup, 5 oz amaretto almond liqueur, 3 oz lemon juice. Stir lightly. add 2 drops chocolate syrup and let it sink in the glass.

Caramel Apple in a Glass
Pour 1/4 cup Sour Apple Pucker schnapps and 1/4 cup Butterscotch liqueur into glass
Stir in 1 tbsp triple sec (taste best if ingredients are ice cold)

Snickers in a Glass
Pour  1 oz Dark Creme de Cacao,  1/2 oz Irish cream and 1/2 oz Frangelico over ice cubes. Top with 1/2 oz light cream. Stir and serve.

Cotton Candy in a Glass
Stir together 1 oz. Amaretto, 1 oz. Vodka, and a splash of pink lemonade (to your taste)


And because I love pumpkin seeds, here is a recipe for perfectly roasted seeds.

1 cups whole pumpkin seeds (dried)
1 teaspoons butter, melted
a pinch salt

Preheat oven to 300 degrees
In a bowl toss seeds with the melted butter and salt. Spread the seeds onto a baking sheet.
Bake until golden brown (about 45 minutes). Stir seeds as they bake for best roasting.

Release Day is Like My Birthday!

For an author, book release day is like a birthday party with friends and family to help celebrate and a big chocolate cake and ice cream to enjoy guilt-free. The thing that makes a release day better than a birthday is that I don't gain another year on my age!

Today's the release day of Turn Up the Heat, and I'm having a blast announcing it on guest blogs and social networks. My editors, Trish and Diana, are amazing, and have guided my writing and taught me more than I could have ever learned on my own. Thank you!

Mackenzie looked at Gina out of the corner of her eye. Such an amazingly beautiful woman. What would it be like to make love to her?

Not just beautiful, but sexy and passionate. Mackenzie desperately wanted to give in to the temptation to let Gina teach her about sex with another woman. This time, her mouth watered thinking about licking Gina’s nipples, sucking and nibbling them. What would they taste like?

“Not your fault.” She laid back, her hands under her head. The fire burned slowly thanks to the oak, and they watched the flames for a few minutes. Mackenzie asked, “Are you doing all right?”

“Yeah.” She groaned. “I’m such a fool. I knew he wasn’t in my league, but I jumped in anyway thinking I might be good enough—”

“Stop that.” Mackenzie turned her head and glared at her. “You’re so fucking far above his league, it’s pathetic.” She took Gina’s hand. “Just because he’s famous doesn’t make him worth more than any other cheating jerk.”

Gina’s eyebrows shot up and she giggled. “You know, I always felt flattered that he wanted me. I felt…grateful.”

“Gina. What he did was his problem, not yours. Don’t drag yourself down.” The liquor crept up and grabbed her while she lay there. A surge of defensive affection filled her. “When I look at you, I see an amazing woman. Not just on the outside, but deep inside, where it counts.”

Throwing her head back, Gina moaned, “But I’m so gullible.” Her eyes filled, and when she blinked, tears rolled down her temples to her earlobes.

Mackenzie leaned over her. “No you’re not. You’re a woman who feels things passionately.” Impetuously, she tipped her head and kissed Gina’s earlobe. “Mmm. Salty. I wish I could…” Gina’s vulnerability touched her, made her protective. She wanted to kiss away all her tears. Looking into her eyes, she whispered, “Gina.”

Gina turned slowly, closing in on her.

A liquor fog blurred all Mackenzie’s inhibitions. A sexual awakening made her daring.

Gina’s lips touched hers tentatively.

Mackenzie opened her mouth and touched their joined lips with her tongue.

A Story of Her Own

I'm so excited! My third erotic romance, "Her Perfect Man", will be released this week on June 22. It's also the third installment in The Man Series, and features Kim Hansen, who's appeared in the first two stories.

Sometimes we writers will create supporting characters then find we want to know more about them. I've wanted to write about Kim since she first appeared as Adam Vostek's on-and-off girlfriend in "One Good Man". She had attitude and no trouble expressing herself, but it was clear that she cared more for Adam than he did for her. What was her story?

Kim's had bad luck with men, mostly because of her poor choices. But why would she pick partners who treat her so callously? That's what I tried to figure out when writing her story. And more importantly, I wanted to know if she'd be able to break the pattern and find someone who values her.

That someone is Charlie Keller, her downstairs neighbor. Kim's a bundle of contradictions, but he's intrigued by her. She, on the other hand, doesn't quite trust him. Charlie's a nice guy, and Kim's not used to that. He may be too good to be true. Too perfect.

But nobody's perfect, of course. Charlie has a few issues of his own, but what I liked about him was that he could see through Kim's attitude to see the tender-hearted woman beneath.

I really enjoyed helping Kim find her perfect man…though it's not an easy road to happiness. I hope readers will enjoy the story as much as I loved writing it.

Caught You Reading!

May is "Get Caught Reading Month".  You can almost always catch me reading something. I'm one of those people who takes a book with me wherever I go. Hey, you never can tell when you might need a book to keep you company! And now that I have an e-reader, I'll sometimes take that with me and have any number of books at my disposal.

I'm so lucky that my parents were readers and that there were always books in our home.  I sometimes drove my mom to distraction when I'd rather be inside reading than outside playing! But when I began working in a school, I learned that not all children are as fortunate as I was.  It broke my heart to realize that some children had no books at all in their homes. Thank goodness for the school library!

And thank goodness for public libraries. In spite of my e-reader, I still borrow many books from my local library. I'd go broke if I didn't. As the saying goes, so many books, so little time.

So guess what, you caught me reading! Right now I'm reading "Sweet Magik" a Faery Rose novel by Penny Watson. I'm really enjoying the story of Oskar Klaus and Kianna Grant.  Oskar, one of Santa's five sexy sons, is a snowboarder and a bibliophile.  As "Director of Elfin Resources" Oskar has his hands full as he tries to win Kianna's heart, deal with a malevolent elf named Wiebe, and discover who's released the Dark Magik that's causing mayhem at the North Pole.

A Question for the Readers

So, life as an author...

Not glamorous for most of us. We write. We work other jobs. We deal with families and the ups/downs just like the rest of you. We simply have overactive imaginations that we cannot stop, nor would we want to stop, because it gives us something else to do! (I'm only speaking for myself, although I'd be willing to hear what other authors say about that imagination thing.)

But, besides writing, we're also supposed to blog. That's an entirely different animal in the writing world. Here's why:

I'm not quirky. Well, I am, but only during Halloween and Mardi Gras. Then, I'm full of quirk. My online writing? Not so much.

Which gets me to thinking...

What do you as readers want from authors besides the next story? Do you like blog posts about our pets? Do you want us to be as bad/naughty/sexually adventurous as our heroines and to write about that? What really do you like to read from authors?

I'm serious in asking. I'm the type of author that stares at my website/blog page that says "New Post" like that proverbial deer in the headlights. I even resorted to posting a photo of Captain America this week. I'm that desperate for blog material. Therefore, I'm reaching out to you. Tell me what you'd like to know about me, a character, or anything at all.

I'll do my best to fulfill your blog fantasy. (That so sounds dirty, but it's virtual, which makes it clean.)

Why was he there? How had he found her home address? What the hell had she done? Fighting the urge to step into his sexy embrace, she slipped around him and hurried to the nice, safe kitchen where she could at least keep the table between them.

“Would you like some tea or maybe a beer? I think I have a couple. I’m not much of a beer drinker, but I keep some on hand just in case. You know for when friends stop by. Kate likes a beer now and then. Maybe it’s old. Does beer get old? I think I have some wine, too. Guys don’t like wine though, do they? Not guys like you, anyway. I don’t have whiskey or anything, but I have juice.” She laughed at the stupidity of the last offer. “Yeah, I don’t suppose apple juice does it for you either. I could—”

 “Savannah.” Long fingers closed over her hand when she tugged on the refrigerator door and gently pushed it closed again. “You’re rambling.” 

She backed into the counter as he stepped closer. Her knees buckled. Was her throat swelling shut? Good God, how could one person smell so damned amazing? 

He circled her waist with his hands and boosted her to sit on the counter, stepping between her thighs. The room dipped and swirled a moment as the man overwhelmed her. It's a very special birthday today for The Wild Rose Press! I'll always be grateful to Rhonda and everyone at TWRP for helping me attain my dream of becoming a published author. When I got "the call" from my editor at The Wilder Roses that my first book, "One Good Man" had been accepted, I was over the moon!

In "One Good Man", heroine Andie Benedetto is too shy and insecure to reach out for the things (and the man) she really wants. She's afraid of wanting what she can never have. I could identify with Andie as for a long time I was afraid to try to reach my dream of being an author. I started many stories but couldn't seem to finish any. Writing is such a solitary activity, it's easy to look at your work and think "Ugh, what's the point? I'll never make it." But with the support of fellow writers  I at last finished a manuscript. And the support from everyone at The Wild Rose Press has been incredible and everything a beginning writer could wish for. 

But hey, it's not all about me! It's a celebration! Woo hoo! Happy happy birthday Wild Rose Press and may there be many more.
