A Story of Her Own

I'm so excited! My third erotic romance, "Her Perfect Man", will be released this week on June 22. It's also the third installment in The Man Series, and features Kim Hansen, who's appeared in the first two stories.
Sometimes we writers will create supporting characters then find we want to know more about them. I've wanted to write about Kim since she first appeared as Adam Vostek's on-and-off girlfriend in "One Good Man". She had attitude and no trouble expressing herself, but it was clear that she cared more for Adam than he did for her. What was her story?
Kim's had bad luck with men, mostly because of her poor choices. But why would she pick partners who treat her so callously? That's what I tried to figure out when writing her story. And more importantly, I wanted to know if she'd be able to break the pattern and find someone who values her.
That someone is Charlie Keller, her downstairs neighbor. Kim's a bundle of contradictions, but he's intrigued by her. She, on the other hand, doesn't quite trust him. Charlie's a nice guy, and Kim's not used to that. He may be too good to be true. Too perfect.
But nobody's perfect, of course. Charlie has a few issues of his own, but what I liked about him was that he could see through Kim's attitude to see the tender-hearted woman beneath.
I really enjoyed helping Kim find her perfect man…though it's not an easy road to happiness. I hope readers will enjoy the story as much as I loved writing it.
To celebrate my upcoming release, I'm giving away a $10 gift certificate to The Wild Rose Press or to The Wilder Roses (your choice). Please leave a comment regarding a supporting character in a book you've read or (if you're an author) written. Was there a supporting character who seemed to "call out" for a book of his/her own?
Thanks so much! I'll select a random commenter on Thursday.

It sounds like an awesome read, Nona.
I love girls with a past that have to find a way to break out of past regrets. It's what my first book was as well.

WOOT! on book 3, gf!

Thanks for stopping by, Taryn! I agree, it's challenging and fun as an author to help characters find their way out of past mistakes.

I'm counting the days until this book is released =) In the meantime, my WIP, "Death of a Waterfall" is coming along nicely. I have three supporting characters: Trevor (my heroine's brother), Alex (my heroine's ex) and Annabelle (my heroine's bff). I would like to tell all 3 of their stories....if I could only find the time.

Hi Kara, it's always fun when supporting characters grab you enough to imagine stories for them. I think Alex might be an interesting choice, because I always want the ones who lose out in the love triangle to find their own happiness!

Thanks for the kind wishes, Melissa!

Congratulations Nona! Can't wait to see her finally get her HEA.

To answer your question: its Noah Clayborne from Shadow Dance by Julie Garwood. He was first introduced in Heartbreaker as the hero's FBI partner and he was in 4 other books before he finally got his own. It was definitely worth the wait.

Hi Nancy, thanks for stopping by!

Wow, Marika, you had to wait 5 books before your fave finally got his own story. That's loyalty for you! I hope you enjoy Kim's story, too.

The book sounds like a lot of women I know. I love it when a story relates to real life situations.

Good luck!

Thanks, Toni! I like characters who aren't perfect and sometimes get into trouble due to their own bad decisions. But isn't that a little like us all?

I my first book, "This Time for Always" I had a supporting cast of characters. Male friends of the heroine who I fully intended to create future stories for. Zach got his story in "This Can't Be Love" and I'm working on revisions for Jake's story.

It's been so much fun to see how these characters' lives continue to be intertwined over the course of the three books.

Hi Nona,
Your book sounds like a must read. I fell in love with a secondary character from The Muse, my recently released novella. Lazarus called to me from the start and I had a hard time keeping him from taking over the story. Needless to say, he has his own story and I just signed the contract to have it published.

Hi Debra! It's amazing, isn't it, how invested we become in our characters. We just have to find out what happens to them after the story ends--hence the connected stories or sequels. Congratulations on your third book! Thanks for commenting.

Hi Katherine! I love the name Lazarus--a character with that name practically demands to have his story written! Congratulations on your new contract!

Congratulations, Nancy! You're the winner of the gift certificate! I'll contact you directly very soon. Thanks everyone who commented!
