Irresistible Impulse by Nona Raines

Irresistible Impulse
by Nona Raines

Ordinarily, Tania Talcott wouldn't be caught dead at a speed dating event, but she lost a stupid bet. Checking out the slim pickings, she's convinced the evening will be a total bust--until a classy, sensual, African American woman enters the room. A woman Tania met briefly once before and never forgot.

Latisha Hobbs is only attending this event to support her young cousin, who's ready to start dating again. Latisha's heart has been on ice for quite some time. But she finds herself immediately--and strongly--enticed by the friendly overtures of a vivacious redhead. Or are they more than friendly?

Fueled by an irresistible impulse, Tania wastes no time getting to know the beautiful mocha woman. Latisha is drawn to Tania as well, but memories of an unhappy love affair make her reluctant to act. These two opposites definitely attract, but will their differences be too much to overcome.

Her Perfect Man by Nona Raines

Her Perfect Man
by Nona Raines

Kim Hansen has terrible luck with men. When her sexy downstairs neighbor shows a more-than-neighborly interest in her, she's suspicious. She's been burned too many times, by too many guys. Charlie Keller is smart, hot and successful--so what does he want with her besides a few nights of pleasure?

Though Kim does her best to shut him down, Charlie's not put off by her attitude. He doesn't scare easy. Kim thinks she's clever, using sex to keep him off guard and to maintain her emotional distance. But Charlie sees through her prickly exterior to her tender heart beneath.

But Kim needs to be won over. Sure, their bedroom action is awesome, but given her past mistakes, she's convinced that Charlie is too good to be true. Just too perfect. But if Charlie has his way, he'll prove that he's the perfect man for her.

A Story of Her Own

I'm so excited! My third erotic romance, "Her Perfect Man", will be released this week on June 22. It's also the third installment in The Man Series, and features Kim Hansen, who's appeared in the first two stories.
Sometimes we writers will create supporting characters then find we want to know more about them. I've wanted to write about Kim since she first appeared as Adam Vostek's on-and-off girlfriend in "One Good Man". She had attitude and no trouble expressing herself, but it was clear that she cared more for Adam than he did for her. What was her story?
Kim's had bad luck with men, mostly because of her poor choices. But why would she pick partners who treat her so callously? That's what I tried to figure out when writing her story. And more importantly, I wanted to know if she'd be able to break the pattern and find someone who values her.
That someone is Charlie Keller, her downstairs neighbor. Kim's a bundle of contradictions, but he's intrigued by her. She, on the other hand, doesn't quite trust him. Charlie's a nice guy, and Kim's not used to that. He may be too good to be true. Too perfect.
But nobody's perfect, of course. Charlie has a few issues of his own, but what I liked about him was that he could see through Kim's attitude to see the tender-hearted woman beneath.
I really enjoyed helping Kim find her perfect man…though it's not an easy road to happiness. I hope readers will enjoy the story as much as I loved writing it.
To celebrate my upcoming release, I'm giving away a $10 gift certificate to The Wild Rose Press or to The Wilder Roses (your choice). Please leave a comment regarding a supporting character in a book you've read or (if you're an author) written. Was there a supporting character who seemed to "call out" for a book of his/her own?
Thanks so much! I'll select a random commenter on Thursday.

Caught You Reading!

May is "Get Caught Reading Month".  You can almost always catch me reading something. I'm one of those people who takes a book with me wherever I go. Hey, you never can tell when you might need a book to keep you company! And now that I have an e-reader, I'll sometimes take that with me and have any number of books at my disposal.

I'm so lucky that my parents were readers and that there were always books in our home.  I sometimes drove my mom to distraction when I'd rather be inside reading than outside playing! But when I began working in a school, I learned that not all children are as fortunate as I was.  It broke my heart to realize that some children had no books at all in their homes. Thank goodness for the school library!

And thank goodness for public libraries. In spite of my e-reader, I still borrow many books from my local library. I'd go broke if I didn't. As the saying goes, so many books, so little time.

So guess what, you caught me reading! Right now I'm reading "Sweet Magik" a Faery Rose novel by Penny Watson. I'm really enjoying the story of Oskar Klaus and Kianna Grant.  Oskar, one of Santa's five sexy sons, is a snowboarder and a bibliophile.  As "Director of Elfin Resources" Oskar has his hands full as he tries to win Kianna's heart, deal with a malevolent elf named Wiebe, and discover who's released the Dark Magik that's causing mayhem at the North Pole.

Did I catch you reading? Please leave a comment and tell us about the book you're reading right now. I'll be giving a $10 gift certificate to The Wild Rose Press or The Wilder Roses (your choice) to a random commenter, to help you buy even more books.  Thanks a lot!

I Cannot Tell A Lie...

I like imperfect heroes. Since this is Presidents' Day, it's a perfect time to be thinking about heroes. Today honors two of our most famous leaders: "The Father of Our Country" and "The Great Emancipator." George Washington and Abraham Lincoln both have monuments dedicated to them in our nation's capital. Legend has made them larger than life. But neither man was made of marble. Biography reveals their humanity.

Being human means being imperfect. The question is, how imperfect can a hero be and still be a hero? That's what I had to deal with when writing my second erotic romance, "Take This Man." The man in question is Adam Vostek, who appeared as a secondary character in my first book. In that story, Adam was a cynical loudmouth who didn't have anything good to say about love. Though I liked Adam, I wasn't sure I could make him sympathetic enough for readers. How could I go about doing that? Well, put him through the wringer of course! Emotionally, that is.

The biggest mistake of Elyse Zemanski's life was falling in love with Adam. When a night of sexual fantasy went too far, she was crushed and couldn't leave town fast enough.

The biggest mistake of Adam Vostek's life was letting Elyse go. He'd been afraid of the love she promised, and pushed her away—into another man's arms…and bed.

When Elyse returns to Summit to help a friend, Adam wants a second chance to prove he’s worthy—in and out of the bedroom. She claims she's over him but one look from those smoldering eyes, and she throws caution to the wind. Elyse offers him seven days of wild sex, hoping to get him out of her system.

Adam's good to go on the sex. But will a week be enough to win back Elyse's love and trust?

Adam needs to prove himself to Elyse—prove that he loves her after letting her down. She doesn't make it easy for him, because she's just as hard-headed as he is. But she needs to face a few truths about herself, too. They both need to let go of the past in order to forgive and move forward.

Today I'm giving away an e-copy of "Take This Man" to a random commenter. Please leave a comment today about what qualities you think make a good hero. Or about a special hero in your life! Thanks so much.

Treat yourself this month!

What's an average day like for you? Chances are you wake early every morning, hustle your family out of bed, fix breakfast, see that the children get washed and dressed, look for lost library books, find matching socks, and get everyone out the door in time for school and work. Then you may need to get yourself to work and you already feel as though you've put in a full day!

Or maybe like me, you're helping to care for an elderly parent. If you were to knock at my door on a given morning, you'd likely still find me in PJs, hurrying to feed the cats, walk the dogs and get Mom ready for her Senior Day Program. We all have busy lives. We care for our family members because we love them. But let's remember to love ourselves, too!

January is "Love Yourself Month." It's often hard, between work and family obligations to find time for ourselves. And sometimes when we do find a bit of time, we feel guilty. But how can we take care of others if we don't take care of ourselves?

Try to do something special for yourself today, even if it's something small. Treat yourself. One of my favorite treats is losing myself in a good book. Preferably a romance! That's why I'm giving away a free copy of my first book "One Good Man" (an erotic romance) to a random commenter.

What's your favorite way to treat yourself? Please leave a comment and share! Thanks!

Senior Pets and Scarlet Roses

Did you know that November is "Adopt a Senior Pet Month?" Sure, those puppies and kittens are adorable, but nothing beats the loyalty and love that an older pet can give.

I can attest to that personally. My own dog Leonardo(pictured above) is half Lab and half who-knows-what and is thirteen years old. A loveable guy, he seems to be going through a second childhood. He's up to one of the tricks he played when he was a pup, namely counter-surfing. Recent items that have "mysteriously disappeared" include a package of hamburger buns, a box of donut holes and half a stick of butter.

You might be wondering what senior pets have to do with romance. Well, in first my Scarlet Rose novel, "One Good Man", an aging Golden Retriever named Daisy plays a special role. In a sense, she's the catalyst that gets my hero and heroine together.

Andie Benedetto is dog-sitting for her father when she first takes notice of studly Matthew Vostek, her dad's neighbor. But Andie's interest is far more than neighborly. Stung by her boyfriend's sudden need for "space", she fantasizes about a hot, no-strings affair. When those fantasies become reality, Andie finds that she wants more—much more—from Matthew than just sex. But will she overcome her own fears to show him that he is the one good man she needs?

In addition to Daisy, Matthew's dogs Marilyn and Angel add fun to the story. I've always liked stories with animal characters and enjoy including them in my books.

Do you have a pet? Whether he's old or young, add a comment and brag about him! And if you're in the market for a new animal companion, remember, there are a lot of advantages to adopting an older pet!
