Check out the Latest Review for Black Dragon's Heart

"This is the third and final book of Anita Philmar’s Black Dragon trilogy. It is full of action and suspense, as well as lots of hot and sweaty sex, in many varied locations. Sarah is an extremely intelligent young woman, and is key to the difficulties facing her race of people. She has access to everything she needs to find out why her race is dying out, and with Jake’s help she intends to find out. She is a strong and determined heroine, although she has her moments of doubt as well."

Just in time for the Holidays

AFTER HOURS is now available at The Wilder Rose Press.

Can you think of a better way to warm up?

Here's an excerpt:

Some men simply walk across a room, but not David.

Elle Simpson watched from her office as the new intern, his hips moving in a predatory roll, strolled to the copier and stood with his back toward her. No, not David.

She felt the color rise in her cheeks as her gaze traced his body, from the dark hair just curling at the nape of his neck, past wide shoulders, to the dangerous-looking narrow hips and an ass made for grabbing. Her body warmed and her inner thighs began to tingle.

David turned, as though he could sense her scrutiny, and flashed a smile that could short-circuit a city. Hell, it certainly did a number on her. Elle swallowed, hiding behind a noncommittal nod, and hoped she gave the impression she was too busy for pleasantries. Damn. She needed to be more careful.

After many years with the company, she’d earned her reputation as a dependable, hard working, no-nonsense kind of woman. She grimaced. What would her fellow employees think if they knew every time David Nelson walked in the room, Elle’s synapses stopped firing as all the blood left her head to settle between her legs? She shifted on her chair and the friction caused her pussy to ache, reminding her of its neglected state.

Evidently finished with the copier, David gathered his papers and walked back to his cubicle.

Elle tilted her head to better watch him walk down the hall. A damn sexy man. Perhaps he’d been born with some sort of exclusive hip design. It would explain the fluidity of movement.

Elle shrugged. One thing was certain—when David walked into a room, or out of it, he had her undivided attention. She didn’t think he was trying to be sexy, or if he was, the effort had become, well...effortless.

Becoming a less neurotic writer AKA Creative Recovery

by Becca Simone

A while back, I set out on a journey to become a less neurotic writer in 12 weeks, using The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron as my guide. Well, I’m realizing it’ll probably take way longer than that. I have a lifetime of bad habits and neuroses to overcome. Cameron calls this journey “creative recovery.” Hmm. That has a much more positive ring to it, doesn’t it?

My personal journey involves daily journaling, meditating, yoga and nature walks. I haven’t been doing any of those things as much as I would like, but I am making progress.

I normally have the meanest, bitchiest internal editor to ever walk the face of the earth. Her name is Helga. Ugly name for an ugly being. She is downright cruel. You should hear what she says to me. It’s not even printable.

During the month of November I’ve been involved in NaNo, and I think the frantic, don’t-look-back pace of writing has helped me to avoid, or at least temporarily shut up, Helga a bit. Thank God.

Some things I’ve read in The Artist’s Way have really hit home. In Week 3 Cameron talks about how anger is at the root of much of our creative neuroses. She says that “in the recovery of a blocked artist, anger is a sign of health.” Awesome. I must be a flippin’ health guru, because I’ve been mad a lot. Recently, a couple of writer friends/acquaintances who just started writing achieved greater success (ie: big sales to major publishers) than I have in all my years of struggling. I went through the mature reactions of “It’s not fair!” and “They haven’t paid their dues!” and listened when Helga told me that I’ll never achieve similar success because I suck as a writer.

Yeah, it was a really pleasant time in the Simone household.

Cameron asks us to pinpoint what it is we’re really mad at. She says anger is our friend—it will always tell us when we have betrayed ourselves. This was an “a ha!” moment for me. I’m not really angry at these friends or even the situation. I’m angry at myself—for the opportunities I didn’t explore, the countless hours I’ve wasted not writing, the wrong turns I’ve taken. It’s all about me. Now that I realize it’s me I’m pissed at, now maybe I can redirect that feeling into my work.

Cameron also talks about synchronicity, which is another word for answered prayers. Be careful what you wish for, knock and the door will open, ask and you will receive, however you want to say it. Cameron says once we begin our creative recovery, synchronicity will pop up everywhere. It’s really true. It’s happened to me. I experienced
this just recently. I was just telling one of my CPs that I really want to do a blog under my pen name but didn’t have the time to go solo. I wished I knew of a group of erotica writers to blog with. The very next day I get an email from a fellow erotica author asking if I might be interested in joining a new group blog. Can you hear the Twilight Zone theme song here? Weird, eh? Another recent instance was as I worked on a promo plan for my next release. I wrote in my notebook to brainstorm creative places to hold a booksigning. That very day, a friend told me she’s planning a huge naughty toy party in February, right in time for Valentine’s Day, and would I be interested in selling some of my books there?

Try it for yourself. Put your wish or desire “out there” and see what happens. And keep me posted.

Holidays, Being Superwoman & Finding Time to Write

Now that Halloween is over, I can't ignore what I've been trying so hard to ignore...the holidays are looming. Don't get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving. Who doesn't love a great turkey dinner with all the trimmings and family gathered around? The feast is always at my house and now that some of my kids are grown and on their own, significant others and strays have wandered in and taken seats at our table, which I think is great. The more the merrier means fewer leftovers. Plus, we have a quaint tradition where everyone at the table has to give a reason for being thankful...last year, my brother-in-law gave thanks that his "soldiers were good swimmers" (my sister had just revealed her pregnancy to the rest of us). Okay...

Christmas is really what stresses me out. Shopping, baking, wrapping, hostessing, decorating. Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a scrooge in the decorating area, I hate to decorate and hate to put the decorations away after the holidays even worse. When we sold our artificial Christmas tree before a big move, I dragged my feet for three years before we bought another one. I didn't miss it. But my biggest gripe about the holidays is the time it takes away from my writing. While I'm being superwoman, my characters are talking to me, calling me a neglectful mommy, asking me to please start taking dictation. They get impatient. I get frustrated. I'm afraid I'll forget what they're saying or won't remember that really cool plot twist that came to me while rolling out sugar cookies. As fellow writers, you understand this crushing fear. Well, maybe not the sugar cookie part but you get my drift.

So, my New Year's resolution, six weeks early, is to take time for my WIP this holiday season. Surely I can carve out time in my day, I'm superwoman after all. Simple solution - I just won't decorate. Yeah, that's it!

Happy Holidays and don't forget to write!

A Little Bit of Everything

Fall Back Pictures, Images and Photos

Wildflowerafternoons

Okay, so it's the day after Halloween. For the first time in thirteen years, I had a quiet, I don't have to go out, fight traffic, crowds and the fright of a little kid running out infront of my car night. Yes, the teenager went off to do his own thing, not trick or treating, all he wanted was the candy, admitted he's really not into it anymore, so I told him I'd buy a couple bags today to satisfy the candy hunger and he was happy with that, LOL. So now it's time to start having Halloween Parties. *YAY*

So not sure about the rest of you, but my butt was up at 7:23 AM (Damn turning back the clocks) :-) What did I do, well, I jumped right back into bed until 8AM, LOL.
I do feel fully refreshed and rested though.

Florida's starting to cool down a bit, *YAY* it's to be in the low 80's today with less humidity and in the upper 50's tonight!! I've waited so long!! (Hand brushing across forehead)

dell mini Pictures, Images and Photos

jorge1782

I'm also in the market for a mini netbook. I've played with a few here and there, messed around with a Acer and A dell mini inspiration last night at Wal-Mart and went to read several reviews. I really like the key board on the dell. The buttons are just a bit larger, and felt more comfortable.

It seems the Toshiba mini has had a lot of negative feed back about the keypad being really sensitive and the mouse jumping around. That is one thing I want to avoid big time. I can't stand that.
Anyone out there have a netbook they want to share the scoop on? I'll take the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

I need more coffee so I'm going to end here and say, Good Morning to Happy the Clock has been turned back day! You all got to sleep an extra hour and wake up earlier, LOL. :-)

Week 2--Becoming a Less Neurotic Writer in 12 Weeks

How's everyone doing out there? I can't say I'm feeling less neurotic, but I am focusing more on my writing and trying my best to ignore that brutal internal editor bitching on my shoulder. Is it working? Mmm, not really, but I am getting better at telling her to shut up. My week one checkin is at the end of the post.

Week Two: Recovering a Sense of Identity.
I love Julia Cameron's quote here: "Going sane feels just like going crazy." Yeah, that’s about right. But if that’s true, how do you tell the difference?

Cameron talks about barriers to our creativity. One of them is external. She calls them “crazymakers.” They’re the people in your life who create storm centers and chaos. The ones who need us right when we’re about to write or are in the middle of writing. The ones who always have some sort of melodrama in their life that then becomes part of our life. The ones who tell us we’re being selfish by taking time to write. Luckily, I don’t have a crazymaker in my life right now, but if you do, consider what you can do to either get them out of your life or minimize the damage they inflict upon your creativity.

There are also internal barriers to our creativity. The biggest one is our skepticism. Cameron describes the mind like a room. Inside our room are all our usual ideas about our life, our creativity, our higher power, etc. The room has a door and it’s slightly ajar. Outside the room is a dazzling light. In that light is a bunch of great, new ideas that are slightly outside of our comfort zone, so we keep them out of our room. The ideas we are comfortable with are inside the room with us. All others are kept outside.

Before our creative recovery, we kept that door closed. Cameron wants us to try opening it now and then. See what happens. “It is not necessary to change our beliefs,” she says. “It is necessary that we examine them.” She says creative recovery is all about “open-mindedness.” She suggests we spend this week consciously opening our mind a bit.

Cameron also talks about how writers tend to waste a lot of time in fantasy and daydreams when we’re blocked. We think about what could have, should have, would have. She says we simply need to pay attention. She suggests writing down how we spend our time during the day. What are the time suckers? We need to stop daydreaming and start doing.

Some other tasks she suggests are to write a list of 20 things we’ve always wanted to do in our life. Can we incorporate anything from that list into our week? She reminds us to read our affirmations daily before or after our Morning Pages.

Here's my Week One checkin:

Daily walking: Did this every day but two days. The weather was horrible here, so that's my excuse. I worked through a couple of plot issues during my walks and my dog really enjoyed it, so that's progress.

Daily 3-min meditation: I'm resisting this for some reason. It's not like it takes a lot of time, but I only fit it in 2x. I just don't think about it during the day. Maybe I should meditate right when I get up in the morning, when I'm making my To Do list (that I never remember to look at for the rest of the day...)

Daily morning pages: I did this every day but one (I was at the ocean for the weekend and ran out of pages in my journal). This is definitely a habit, one I can't do without. Just this morning I wrote out a whole new series idea that just came to me while I rambled about something else.

Weekly Artist Date: Yes, I did this. My siblings, mom, daughter and I went to the ocean for the weekend. I took an hour and went for a walk on the beach by myself, and spent some time drawing pictures in the sand with a stick and just standing in the surf watching the waves.

Yoga 2x/week: Did this and it felt great. Once was with the class I taught, then a second time for about 20 minutes working mainly on the tightness in my hips. This is a habit that I really want to cultivate.

Good luck this week!

12 Weeks to Becoming a Less Neurotic Writer

by Becca Simone

Writers are neurotic. Isn’t that a given?

I’ve been in this industry for years, have dealt with my share of ups and downs, roadblocks, writer’s block, every type of block you can imagine. I’ve seen the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

I’ve seen success come easily to some, while for others—like me—every step is a well-fought battle. The longer I write, the more I understand why many writers before me have turned to alcohol, drugs or other addictions. Luckily, my only addictions are chocolate and Cheetos—good for the soul, bad for the waistline. My body’s saving grace is that my “other” job is fitness trainer and instructor (ie: I get paid to work out). Otherwise my fanny would be the size of Europe. As it is, it’s merely the size of a small country, not a continent.

Usually, I can handle the craziness. Sometimes, however, this business just makes me want to dig a deep hole and hibernate in it. I think anyone who writes can probably relate.

I hate feeling this way, so I’ve decided to do something about it. Looking back on my personal life, the time I felt most grounded and centered was when I had a regular yoga and meditation practice. Looking back on my writing life, the time I felt the least neurotic was early in my career when I didn’t know any better. It wasn’t long after I’d started writing that I read the fantastic book The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. It’s a 12-week program to recover your creativity from a variety of blocks.

So…for the next 12 weeks I plan to combine the above efforts and share them with you on this blog. I’d love it if some of you wanted to travel this path with me, but feel free to just live vicariously through my craziness.

Here are some of the tasks “required” in The Artist’s Way:

A daily 20-minute walk outside. This will (hopefully) clear the head, work the body, bring oxygen to all the cells, and help me work through any creativity issues I might have. I plan to kill two birds with one stone and bring my energetic German Shepherd puppy with me. He’s 95 pounds of pure Tasmanian Devil.

Daily “morning pages.” This is stream-of-consciousness writing, like keeping a journal. Do this first thing upon waking up, every single day. I started doing Morning Pages about 10 years ago and have been pretty good about keeping this up. My day just doesn’t feel right unless I’ve written my 3 pages. I never go back and read them. And when my notebook is full, I shred it.

A weekly “artist date.” For at least one hour weekly, I’m to do something or go somewhere that feeds my soul. By myself. This could be browsing at a local antique store or flea market. Taking a hike along the river. Browsing a used bookstore. Driving some back roads and exploring the countryside. Whatever.

As mentioned above, I feel best when I practice yoga and meditate. So, I’m adding those to my daily and weekly To Do list.

Yoga – 2-3x a week. I teach one yoga class, so I’ll need to add one or two more practices on my own.

Meditation – this is the hardest for me. It’s really difficult to sit with my stillness and not have thoughts racing through my head at a million miles an hour. So, I’ll start slowly. Just 3 minutes of stillness, focusing on my breath. Every day.

Week One
Artist’s Way—“Recovering a Sense of Safety”
Basically, Ms. Cameron is saying that many of our blocks are due to fear, and only we can determine what we’re afraid of. My favorite quote from this chapter is, “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”—Joseph Chilton Pearce. I take this to mean that as I’m writing and working on my WIPs, I shouldn’t be so worried about it being “good” or “sellable”, but instead focus on getting the words down on the page. And to enjoy the process.

She says if we’re blocked in any area of our life, it’s probably because we feel safer this way. Hmm. She suggests writing down all our negative beliefs about our creativity (in this case, our writing) and then turn those around and make a positive affirmation out of each one. “Negative beliefs are exactly that: beliefs, not facts,” she says. “The world was never flat, although everyone believed it was. You are not dumb, crazy, egomaniacal, grandiose, or silly just because you falsely believe yourself to be.” Whew! That’s good to know.

I’ll check back here in a week to let you know how it’s going. Unlike with personal training, where I can measure my clients' before and after stats like body weight, body fat, and inches, there are no measurements with this plan to tell me if I’m less neurotic. I guess I’ll just have to go by how I feel. Is my internal editor a bit quieter? Am I being more productive, with less time just staring at my blinking cursor? Do I still feel like crawling into a hole and hibernating? Am I enjoying this process again?

Think about joining me. We can be crazy together.

Becca Simone's first erotica release, MIDNIGHT TREAT, is available now at The Wild Rose Press. Her characters aren't nearly as neurotic as she is.

Fatal Exposure

Great news. Fatal Exposure is out as an Early Bird Special for September. Buy the paperback now!

Blurb:
Deception brings them together. Exposure can tear them apart.

Taking off her clothes every night for the patrons of Hothouse Gentleman’s Club was never part of Ava Lureau's life plan, but the sleazy strip joint was the last place her powerful ex-boyfriend would think to look for her. A life on the run kept Ava safe…but lonely. So when a ruggedly sexy stranger shows up and a lap dance becomes more than another dollar in her G-string, she takes a chance.

Kade Gavin’s job is simple—capture his target and deliver her to the man who hired him. Nothing but a paycheck matters in Kade's bleak existence…until the enticing stripper with soft curves and a puzzling persona climbs into his bed--and under his skin.

Excerpt:
“I’m not a whore,” she said over her shoulder, suddenly feeling completely naked in more ways than one.

She puffed out a breath, irritated with herself for allowing him to touch her, and for liking it too much to stop. Just how far would she have let him go? How far did she still want it to go? His proposal was annoyingly tempting.

“That’s good because I’m not going to pay you.” He stood up behind her, dropping his head to right above her neck. His warm, cinnamon breath swept across her bare shoulders. “Just finish the job I already started.”

She spun around and perched her hands on her hips, wanting him to know she wasn’t intimidated by his brashness. With a bravado she didn’t feel, she looked up into his pale blue eyes, swallowed her rising nerves, and said, “Why are you still here?”

He quirked up his mouth in a smirk. “I’m not a man who likes to waste time, Lily.” He said her name with all the falseness they both knew it contained.

“I’m not a woman who jumps on command,” she snapped back. The guy had a lot of nerve.

“No?” His brows squinted together as he lifted the guilty finger and licked it, his tongue consuming the bodily juices that still clung to his skin. Her juices. He winked. “Sure tastes like you do.”

A surge of heat pulsed where his finger had once been, but she did her best to ignore it. “Sorry, sweetie.” She gave him a once-over and desperately tried to look unimpressed. “I don’t fraternize with the customers.”

A sexy grin spread across his face. “Room 112 at the hotel across the street. Come over when you’re done here. You won’t regret it.”

Destined To Mate by C. A. Salo

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press, Scarlet Rose
Genre: Contemporary, Paranormal
Length: Short Story (95 pgs)
Other: M/F
Rating: 4.5
Review by Xeranthemum

A feline mated to a werewolf? As a Chimera, half lioness/half human, Alexis Xanthis, has never released the beast within. Until she meets Lykan Alpha, Morgan LeVey. Being near him triggers a powerful need to mate, but is Morgan strong enough to dominate her feline side and still handle the human half with a gentle hand? And will the powers that be allow it?

Destined to Mate mixes a delicious combination of mythology, the paranormal and some hot loving sure to thrill a reader on many levels. Alexis is a heroine with a deadly secret. She’s also adorable, spunky, and an amazing mix of charming innocence and old world knowledge. She is also the owner of a book store. Imagine that. What I really liked about her are her kick butt abilities which totally outshine the guys, much to their chagrin.

All the guys except one, that is. Morgan is an alpha wolf. And he’s the best part of being an alpha – not overbearing and irritatingly autocratic but protective, responsible and fair. He also has being dominant in a relationship down pat – it’s a very seductive and potent level.

Even when Alexis throws him for a loop he still doesn’t get in a snit over it. He is so very well put together; I didn’t have to deal with any male ego trips. What a relief. One of the things that I personally look for in a lycan/paranormal romance is if there is bite. I find biting in passion between the hero and heroine very erotic and Ms. Salo nailed it. But I am not going to tell you who was biting who, because that would be telling. There’s no way I want to diffuse those moments, which for me, were very sensual and satisfying.

The secondary characters were fun. Val was interesting and a good sounding board for Alexis. There’s a term for their relationship but no way am I writing that here. Rafe simply cracked me up. What a unique spin for a second-in-command. Usually they are about as strong as the alpha, but poor Rafe has a very human and irritating thing that happens to him. I could not help but giggle the times it happened.
Alexis’ mom is a beaut. Wait until you meet her.
Destined to Mate is sure to entertain and excite, evoke interest and lust, and delivers a well written story with a character driven plot which delightfully showcases the pursuit of love in all its furry splendor.

We've passed the halfway mark with summer, but the heat is still here. The problem is…I'm not sure which kind of heat I'm talking about. There's the heat of summer weather, then there's the heat that jumps off the written page of a hot story.

Weatherwise – I'm writing this as the outside temperature is a sweltering 107 degrees. Desert locations take a 107 degree day and claim, "But it's a dry heat!" Unfortunately, I'm not able to do that. Where I live, summer heat goes hand-in-hand with humidity. We are expecting cooler weather for the next few days as a cold front moves through tonight. Temperatures should drop down to the mid 90s. Ah, yes…things are strange, indeed, when I look forward to days when the heat is only in the mid 90s.

And then there's the heat that jumps off the written page of a hot story.

FORBIDDEN ISLAND by Samantha Gentry is a July 17, 2009, release as part of the Destination Pleasure series from The Wilder Roses, the Scarlet Rose line of erotic romance stories from The Wild Rose Press. The Destination Pleasure series consists of Quick Reads featuring the obvious – hot days and nights of sensual pleasure. Regardless of the weather or location, the characters in the Destination Pleasure series will definitely heat up the pages of the book.

When figuring out what it is that could bring my two main characters together in FORBIDDEN ISLAND and put them in a highly erotic setting, I decided they wouldn't be strangers. They had one meeting several years ago and although they have not seen each other since then, she has not been able to get him off her mind. Each day brings forth the question, what if? A question she finally decides needs to be answered once and for all.

Chantal Stevens devises a ruse that brings her face-to-face with Murphy Abbott again. A ruse she intends will take her straight to his bed. But what about Murphy? Has what if where Chantal is concerned ever crossed his mind?

It doesn't take long before the question to be answered is exactly who is the seducer and who is the seducee.

Here's an excerpt from FORBIDDEN ISLAND:

Her body language told him more than her words as she nervously shifted her weight from one foot to the other. Her gaze darted around the room landing everywhere except on him. It all screamed deception.

"Don't play games with me, Chantal." A grin tugged at the corners of his mouth as he imagined her out of her clothes and stretched across his bed. "Unless they start with everyone being hot and naked."

"Well..."

A crimson flush spread across her cheeks and forehead. Her tautly puckered nipples shoved against the soft fabric of her T-shirt, confirming what he had already noticed--she wasn't wearing a bra. Had he touched a nerve that caused her embarrassment? Or better yet, had he hit on an interesting way of spending the day that was acceptable to her?
Heated desire spread through his body, and his cock twitched as it came to life. He was more than willing to put his curiosity about what brought her to his island on hold in favor of a far more interesting pursuit. He took a swallow of his beer and carefully studied her while waiting for a response to his blatantly suggestive remark.

He didn't have to wait long.

A sexy smile slowly spread across her face. "What kind of hot and naked games do you like to play?"

That was all the encouragement he needed. There was no mistaking the twinkle in her blue eyes, a color nearly the same hue as her shorts and T-shirt. Her lipstick matched her fingernail polish, the same shade also decorating her toenails peeking out from her sandals. Her breasts rose and fell with her increased breathing. She had crossed his mind many times over the last ten years. And now fate had brought her to his personal piece of paradise for reasons he didn't know...at least not yet.

No way would he allow this opportunity to get her into his bed slip through his fingers a second time. He could already taste her and feel his cock buried inside what he suspected was a hot, juicy and tight pussy. When he first met her, she had been a tempting treat. And now...somewhere during the intervening years she had turned into a tantalizing, vibrant woman whose mere presence grabbed his libido and wouldn't let go.

He walked around the end of the bar and stood next to her. He brushed feathery wisps of her blonde hair from her cheek, then trailed a fingertip down her arm to the back of her hand. The creamy texture of her skin stimulated his senses. "If you'd like to accompany me, I'll be glad to show you." Holding out his hand, he tilted his head to the side and shot her a look that was half question and half challenge.

FORBIDDEN ISLAND is available as of July 17th at The Wilder Roses.

Hello from a new Scarlet editor!

Hi Wilder Roses!

I've been lurking behind the scenes in the garden for a while and thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm Karen, and I'm the newest editor to join the Scarlet Rose line of TWRP. Needless to say, I'm very excited to be here amongst such a great bunch (no pun intended!) of people :)

Ah, I suck at introductions. I'm British and live in the north of England in a tiny quaint village near the medieval city of York. I'm a historian and archaeologist by trade, my favourite coffee is cinnamon latte (yay for the village coffee shop!), I'm trying to grow my own salad veg (my lettuce looks like cress), and I loveloveLOVE to read!

Erotic romance is one of my favourite genres. You wouldn't believe how thrilled I was when the Black Lace imprint started in the UK back in the 1990s. I must have spent a fortune buying those books! Then I discovered e-publishing five years ago and WOW! I was in heaven! Most of the ebooks I read are erotic romances, and chances are I've read something from all of you Wilder Roses ;) I was a fan of TWRP before I became an editor here, and I've got to say my favourite series of any e-pub out there is Destination Pleasure. I've read every single one of those and look forward to many more!

I love reading historical romances and am a big fan of Mills & Boon/Harlequin's historical line. But give me a hot, raunchy historical and I'm even happier. There's so much scope with an historical - and why limit it to the Western world? I'd love to see more erotic romances set in India, or in Asia, or the Middle East or Africa. I'd love to see multicultural and interracial heroes and heroines. I'd adore it if a story set in ancient Egypt or Greece or Rome crossed my desk. I'm looking forward to reading about unusual time periods, too - from the Byzantine period through to the High Middle Ages, the late Renaissance to the Age of Enlightenment and beyond.

And what about steampunk? That's a genre that's growing in popularity right now, and delivers a mix of alternate history, fantasy and sci-fi - put it together with a sexy romance and it's perfect!

So that's me and what I like (and hope!) to read. What about you? Do you have any recommendations for historical erotic romances? I'd love to hear them!

- Karen

My New Blog

I've started a new blog to gear up for my first erotic romance, Show-Off, which releases this Friday! Come by and leave a comment during the week, and you can win a copy of my book! Today I'm talking about what inspired my book. I'll be offering excerpts the rest of the week. Come see me.

Veronica Butler avoids risks as a rule, but when faced with celebrating her thirty-fifth birthday alone, she dons her sexiest dress and heads to a single's club. She’s startled when the attention she draws is that of her supervisor, Vicente Salazar. They’ve worked on the same team at an architectural firm, designing a hotel with Gaudi-influenced elements. Veronica has indulged in several fantasies starring the sexy Spaniard. Now she’s fueling his.

Though she knows it's a mistake, that this decision may affect the office atmosphere, she gives into her desire and allows him to show her exquisite pleasure in public places. From the back of a limousine to his office to an alcove in a museum, each sexual encounter is exciting, challenging, terrifying. Each encounter shows her more of who she is. Each encounter risks her heart. Now if only she can convince him to risk his.

Sapphire Night by Kaia Logan

In less than two weeks, my debut story with TWRP will be available online, and I couldn't be more excited! I wonder how long it'll take me to fall asleep on the evening of June 25th, knowing that the next day is The One?
Here's a peek at the cover, art by the talented Angela Anderson, plus the blurb and excerpt.

While setting up for a charity art exhibit, sculptor Jacquie Taylor is nearly crushed by her giant urn, but she's saved thanks to gorgeous photographer Ethan Wolfe. The artist and red-blooded woman in Jacquie longs to explore his shape, but she's engaged to another man. Then her fiancé cheats, and all bets are off. Jacquie allows herself to indulge in Ethan's charms to drown her sorrows—a night so steamy and intense it leaves her breathless. But when Ethan wants more than one night of passion, Jacquie panics. How can she even think about letting another man into her life...and her heart?
Sapphire Night
by
Kaia Logan
"Hi," he said, stepping into the small space of the elevator. The rumble of his voice sent a little run of goose bumps up her spine.
"Hi again." She tried not to stare. He'd looked good last night in his jeans and T-shirt, but in a tux? "I guess you're not heading to the pub tonight."
"Not tonight." A smile crinkled the corners of his blue eyes. "It's the monkey suit for me."
"And a very nice monkey suit it is," she said. "Although..." Her gaze lingered on his bowtie. It was a crazy impulse, she knew, but she wanted to step closer, have a chance to inhale his scent, feel the heat of his body.
"What? Am I crooked?" He reached a tanned hand to the base of his throat.
Jacquie stepped forward. With fingers that trembled ever so slightly, she straightened the already straight bowtie. He smelled—and looked—even better up close. His blue eyes were entirely serious all of a sudden. A slow pulse began between her thighs, she couldn't look away.
"Thanks," he murmured, and seemed about to say something else when the elevator door slid open. Lights from the ceiling chandeliers and the hum of voices from the foyer washed into the small space.
"You're welcome," she said, stepping back.
There was a beat of silence, and then Ethan offered his arm. "Shall we?"
Jacquie tucked her hand into the crook of his elbow. That pulse still beat low in her belly, and the feel of his muscled arm, even through the fabric of his jacket, didn't help. This is crazy, but I don't care. This evening is already going better than I could possibly have imagined a few hours ago. In fact...
An image, startlingly vivid, flashed through her mind. Ethan's mouth coming down on hers, his hands sliding the straps of her dress from her shoulders, his hands exploring her body until she shivered and moaned...

Excerpt:

“What are you doing here?” The angry male voice spoke from the bank of the river.

Water lapped against Faye Lynn’s skin with a warning of danger. She squatted deeper into the cold water and peeked over her shoulder. A quick dip in the lake, and when it got dark, she’d planned to sneak back to town.

Now, caught by a stranger, she hoped he couldn’t see her naked form. “I’m sorry. Does the river belong to you?”

“Yes, and all the land around here. You’re invading my territory.” His rough tone sounded as if he planned to haul her off to jail, which didn’t happen often in this part of the human world. More criminals lived in the surrounding area than law abiding citizens.

“Is that the reason for the tall stone fence around your property, because you don’t like people on your land?” She wiggled around to observe his granite expression. Her feet sunk a little deeper into the soft muck at the bottom of the lake.

A tall mountain of a man, his wide shoulders and bulging muscles told her she wouldn’t escape this man easily, if at all. She considered the amount of time she’d been in human form. The ability to shift from one form to another quickly wasn’t a skill she could achieve easily.

Too soon to even try.

“So tell me, how did you get onto my property?” He leaned against the rock where she’d transformed.

His nostrils flared. He turned his head. His dark hair caught the light of the falling sun and sparked with the same red highlights from the night beast. The fabric across his chest expanded, displaying strong, well-defined muscles.

“What?”

He turned and nailed her with a piercing black stare. “You’re a shape-shifter, aren’t you?”

Uncertain if she should speak the truth, Faye Lynn shook her head. “Why would you say such a thing?”

“Because I can smell you.” He stepped forward. His rubber boots splashed in the shallow waters of the river. Each step drew him closer.

If she knew how to swim, she would’ve turned and swam away, but alas, she didn’t. “What? What smell?”

A lustful smile passed over his lips. His white sharp teeth looked ready to feed on her flesh. He licked his lips and stopped a few paces from her. “An alluring scent of a shape-shifter. After changing form, they burn with a hunger that can be satisfied only in one way.”

Destined to Mate's FIRST Review

I'm stoked!! I have my first review for Destined to Mate and it's AWESOME!!

Title: Destined To Mate

A feline mated to a werewolf?
As a Chimera, half lioness/half human, Alexis Xanthis, has never released the beast within. Until she meets Lykan Alpha, Morgan LeVey. Being near him triggers a powerful need to mate, but is Morgan strong enough to dominate her feline side and still handle the human half with a gentle hand? And will the powers that be allow it?

First off, this is an amazing story. The fast paced plot and the multitude of characters will hook you with just a few pages. Even though there are quit a few characters, you do not lose the storyline. They actually enchance it.
The dialogue with all the characters can be fast, ferious, humorous, and definitely entertaining. The sex scences are not for the faint of heart. They are steamy, sensual, and very hot. This is definitely a book I would recommend. I'm hoping this author decides to make this into a series.

Executive Positions - Coming soon from KyAnn Waters

I'm so excited to announce my recently contracted rosette to the Wilder Roses. Executive Positions will be coming this fall.

Executive Positions
By KyAnn Waters

Four years of foreplay is enough . . .

Avril Blanco experiences several positions with a sexy, driven executive in the advertising firm of William Carver. The complication...Monday morning the determined and powerful man will be her boss.

Ian Carver is taking over as CEO for his ailing father. His first executive decision—renegotiate Avril’s job description. He’s looking for a partner, in and out of bed.

But will she risk the reputation of sleeping her way to the top?

Unedited excerpt and may vary from final version.

Damn, his movements were deliberate and sexy. He stalked toward her with the determination of a predator, stealing the air from her lungs. “It’s a pleasure to see you again,” he said. His heated baritone was a mixture of confidence and raw sexuality.

“Welcome home and welcome aboard.” Avril Blanco extended her hand as a slow tentative smile found her lips.

“Thank you.” The newest addition to the William Carver advertising firm grasped her hand and the fine hairs on her arm tingled. He didn’t shake, but held her gently with his long fingers, his thumb grazing the tender flesh on the top of her hand with a deliberate stroke.

She tried not to divulge the clamoring desires rioting through her, but seductive awareness fluttered in her chest and made her nipples tighten. His intense stare locked on her face and she melted—just a little. To reveal to him he had a profound physical and sexual affect on the state of her panties would be tantamount to professional suicide. After all, Ian Carver was the boss’s son.

“Ms. Blanco, we’ll be working together.”

Yes, she was well aware of that—was well aware of him. She smiled, keeping her professional demeanor in place when all she really wanted to do is ask him to talk dirty to her with that voice, deep yet smooth like aged brandy. “You can call me Avril.” She tipped her champagne flute to him in a toast then sipped. “But as your father said, tonight is a celebration so no discussions of work.” However, that was probably the only safe subject considering the directions her thoughts were taking her. She’d been half in love with Ian for four years. Revealing that now would have her looking for a new job and she was just getting used to her executive office.

Ian hitched a hip against the conference table. His olive-toned suit coat parted giving her a glimpse of his muscular linen-covered chest. He sipped his champagne and his Adam’s apple bobbed. “I like that idea.” He gave her one of those smiles that warmed her and weakened her knees. A dimple creased his left cheek through his five-o’clock shadow. “We’re finally going to be able to get to know each other better.”

Amazing New Cover Art for THAI'D UP

Angela Anderson has done it again! This was a difficult story to create a cover for, but she did a fabulous job. I love it. My hero does wear a white mask (a la Phantom of the Opera) and the hair colors are spot on for both characters. Thank you, Angela!

Blurb:

Visiting Bangkok to do an interview for her employer, Heidi Clarke is intrigued by the wild and raucous nightlife. When a handsome and engaging stranger, dressed as the Phantom of the Opera, offers to escort her into a BDSM club, she's too curious to refuse. Released Today - Black Dragon's Moon

Blurb -

Dee Butterfield, a Dragon Center agent, finally has the job she’s alway longed for. On her first assignment, she is assigned to protect sculptor, Scott VanHorn. His rich dragon blood tempts her to enter into an affair, which could not only jeopardize her career but possibly her life.

Scott determined to find out who killed his best friend, is helping the Dragon Center investigate a corrupt art dealer. Posing as a struggling artist, Scott can’t keep his hands off Dee and pursues her while they try to discover what happened to his friend.

Her assignment is to protect him, but he has a
mission of his own.

His lips slid along the curve of her earlobe. He nibbled and toyed with her tender flesh. Hope pooled and seeped between her thighs. Thoughts of kissing him flooded her head with erotic ideas.

“Wanting you doesn’t discount the need to find the swindler.” He shifted back and twirled her around to search her face. “Is your level of dragon blood as high as Amanda’s?”

Her hands caressed the strong barrier of his chest. She enjoyed the crisp texture of his hair and the melting heat of his skin. The answer to the question held ramifications she didn’t plan to deal with. Their affair wouldn’t last long enough for her to fall into the hazardous state of pregnancy.

“It doesn’t matter. You’re not looking at me as a potential mate. We’re only here to have a little fun.”

His hungry eyes narrowed to small slits. “The terms of engagement?”

She stepped closer. Her silk covered breasts brushed his broad chest. The sexy purr of the fabric whispered between them. “I’ll be honest. I like the idea of making love to you, but I’m not interested in anything more serious.”

“No ties.” His burning gaze skated over her face, and his impatient hands gripped her hips. “Right?”

“Yes. To keep my job as a Dragon Center agent, I can’t get married.”

His gaze landed on her mouth and passion flared. A swipe of his tongue moistened his lips. The hands on her hips lowered to squeeze her backside and crush her into his rock-hard erection. She shivered.

“Just a little fun.” She worked her hands around his neck. “Agreed?”

His lips hovered within a breath of hers. “No.”

Touch of the Demon - Cover Art

OMG!!! What a fantastic New Year's pressie. The cover art for my upcoming Scarlet Rosette was waiting for me in my inbox this morning. Isn't it absolutely gorgeous? My wonderful cover artist, Angela Anderson, even included the magical stiletto (which I had entirely forgotten to mention in the art sheets!)

And here's the excerpt:

“I’ll beg you for nothing.” It was a lie. If Celeste thought begging could get her anywhere, then she would already be on her knees before him. She kept that knowledge locked deep in her heart.

Rafe took a step toward her and her heart hammered in her breast. He was taller than any human she had known over the years. But then, he wasn’t human. Beneath the long leather coat he wore against the night’s chill air, his broad shoulders all but blotted out the rest of the world.

She sucked in a suddenly panicked breath, and his evocative scent of other worldly essences, meshed with hot, heavy male enveloped her. Against every principle she stood for, her nipples strained against the fabric of her bodice, peaking with desire and disgust and pure, animal heat.
